and the punk scene. I know nothing about it all. Anyone wish to recommend some stuffs?...
Some nice midwest hardcore. http://outofprintpunk.blogspot.com/2008/06/necros-conquest-for-death-and-more.html
it's a good read :)
but they did interview some of my friends and gave them good reviews in a recent issue (one night stand in north dakota and speeding bee)
the shitty limits, lovvers and facel vega are all amazing.
I found these three interviews with Marky Ramone interesting - they touch on the punk scene:
They're newer stuff is a bit more 'gothy', but check out 'Damned Damned Damned', it's a brilliant album. Will you be seeing them at ATP?
The Bleach Boys
Either way, The Ruts recorded the best UK punk album with 1979's The Crack...
fabulous band who should have made it much much bigger than they did. They did the punk/reggae thing way better than the Clash did and were hugely anti-racist. Jah Wars is a great track.
check out anything they put out really.
The Eurgon Carasel (they are more grindcore than punk)
They have a punky / hardcore element to them, its just good heavy music anyway.
richard hell & the voidoids
Dillinger Four - www.myspace.com/dillingerfour (shouty and melodic punk with amusing lyrics, 3 vocalists, absolutely awesome.)
The Bronx - www.myspace.com/thebronx (hardcore punk rock, bit Black Flag-ish)
Rocket From The Crypt - http://www.last.fm/music/Rocket+from+the+Crypt (rock 'n roll punk with horns, best band ever.)
Hot Snakes - http://www.last.fm/music/Hot+Snakes (noisy, guitar-driven punk music, featuring Speedo from RFTC.)
but with jawbreaker, lemuria, the ergs! and the descendents instead of the bronx.
especially this Shite is Genius
Hot Water Music
Spiral Scratch is all you need
i will recommend you a few films which will do just as much for you, if not more, than listening to the music.
first of all: the filth and the fury. it's in my top five of all films ever, because it's that good. mainly about the sex pistols, but gives you a unique glance into the world and scene that gave birth to all the stuff which we now know as punk. a kind of similar one os westway to the world, which is about the clash. really good film.
once you've watched those and maybe read some stuff and know the basics of what actually happened back then, you should definitely watch films like the great rock'n'roll swindle, rudeboy and sid&nancy. sid&nancy is quite appalling by itself but still quite interesting if you know the story. swindle & rudeboy are not great films as such but priceless if you know the bands and want to get below the surface a bit more.
don lett's punk:attitude is pretty amazing. it steals a lot of stuff from filth&fury but covers so much more, even up to the american hardcore scene. loads of legendary interviews.
