The Unbending Trees / Ben Watt @ The Luminaire, Dec 4th
THE UNBENDING TREES LIVE IN LONDON ON THU DEC 4 | NEW SINGLE, RADIO SESSION, FEATURE
Following the enthusiasm surrounding the release of their recent debut album, 'Chemically (Happy Is The New Sad)', The Unbending Trees round off the year with a headline show at London's The Luminaire on Thu Dec 4 and a new single, 'Everybody's Lover', taken from the album on Mon Dec 8. Respected London journalist Pete Paphides flew to Budapest last week to interview the band for a major feature in The Times to be published on November 29, while Radio 1's Rob Da Bank is all set to broadcast two exclusive live tracks to preview the gig.
With references to Leonard Cohen, Red House Painters and Jacques Brel, acclaim for the Budapest trio has focussed on the raw, gothic beauty of their sound ('Utterly beguiling' / The Guardian. 'Raw, real, sensitive, cold and lonely.' / Kruger. 'Absolutely the right thing to be listening to surrounded by autumn darkness.' / Pete Paphides, The Times). Lead singer, Kristof Hajos, was thrown out of a monastery aged 18, and pianist Havasi is a revered classical performer in his home country. Together with bassist Peter Hary, and drummer Andor Gabor, they have crafted a unique, downbeat but cathartic style. Tracey Thorn guested on the first single 'Overture', championed by Gideon Coe at 6Music.
The live event will be the second party of the year from the band's label, Ben Watt's Strange Feeling Records. The last one back in February was packed. Norfolk's The Lost Levels support. Ben Watt will also be playing a downtempo DJ selection.
To celebrate Strange Feeling Records have made a special live version of 'Everybody's Lover' available as a free download.
