Don't know shit about the genre. Enlighten me please!
sick of it all
the garfield movie
Zen Arcade by Husker Du and Double Nickels On The Dimes by The Minutemen should expand your horizons slightly. Oh yeah, and Damaged or The First Four Years by Black Flag, and I Against I by The Bad Brains- that is if you're talking early 80s Hardcore rather than Botch, Dillinger and Blood Brothers 'hardcore'.
black flag 'damaged'
bad brains self titiled
MDC 'millions of dead cops/more dead cops'
negative approach 'total recall'
dead kennedys 'give me convenience or give me death'
is probably a pretty good introduction to the old/classic stuff, obviously theres a lot more out there though
anndd errrr gosh newer stuff
Converge 'jane doe' (although very "metally" as mentioned above)
Fucked Up 'hidden world' or the new one 'the chemistry of common life'
cant think of any others right now....not gallows.
Will be checking most of the others in due course.
I'm already aware of the new record from Fucked up. That's what probably prompted the thread (i think), coupled with hearing some hardcore on a Larry Clark film and thinking 'i quite like this'.
arent really hardcore
black flag= humourless, minor threat= politcaly skewed, bad brains= homophobic rastas etc
they all made shit hot music
and black flag arent humourless
did you never hear six pack or tv party
and this old gem popped up:
People will probably dispute them being 'hardcore' but I fucking love them.
- reaching forward
- rise and fall
- cancer bats
Tear It Up
all absolutely fucking AWESOME.
Just get the Minor Threat discography, listen to it 20+ times. If it clicks you'll get into everything else, if it doesn't fuck it.
