Best album and/or best place to start?
from 2002 is their must-have record.
But the new one is excellent too, and one of the most under-rated albums of the year
but between neon golden and the devil you + me i think.
Then have a listen to 13&God which is a side project with themselves
Were they good? I'm in two minds whether to go see them next week...
I've seen them a couple of times at festivals (ATP and Field Day) and they've been one of the highlights both times. I've had a bit more cash I'd be all over this tour. The guy using the Wii remotes is great...
They were one of the main reasons I went this year, but I have to say I was disappointed.
Then again, I'm pretty sure that was less because of their performance and more because I was only just inside the tent - which was in turn crammed full of trendy Londonite scum who were only under canvas because it was raining outside and they were worried about their hair. I actually got asked by a number of these creatures if I would take photos of them (with their cameras, obviously) DURING the gig. No doubt these carefully-posed-for pictures were on facebook before the day had ended, along with a few "Carol is omg sooo muddy after getting lashed in a random field watching bands all day!!1" statuses.
Or should that be stati..?
i thought they were the best band at field day. their dynamics and use of technology is quite amazing. i love them live and just wish they would play more!!!
-dan- should have been in the tent between the speakers, it was great and, for me, an unexpected live highlight this year. They were better than at Primavera 08 in fact.
like I said, it seemed like they were putting on a great show; I just couldn't fight my way in far enough to hear it :'(
as the tent was rammed with people who just wanted be under a roof, they took ages to set up, and the DJs played this really cheesy 90s disco music beforehand to keep people entertained but once the Notwist started it was an ace set in my book, they manage to win people over where i was standing (about halfway in), loved the alternate versions, the moodiness of the songs...everytime i've seen them it's been really good!
the older ones might as well be a different band
is obviously by the same band. The Notwist, Nook and 12 are quite different.
are definite buys, in that order.
I'm not sure whether to see them again. I loved their gig with Fog/Subtle a few years ago, and had mixed feelings about their ICA/Field Day gigs this year- the songs were great, but then they go off on a tangent on some of the songs, and make them 10/15/20 minute long instrumental bits, which I didn't feel the love for as much.
I was hoping to find out who the support act would be for ULU, to see if that would help me decide, but I've not heard anything yet.
Can't wait. Not seen them before. I personally think The Devil, You + Me is the best album I've heard this year and better than Neon Golden.
Is there the same support band for all of the nights, or just local/different support bands?
They were absolutely outstanding! best live show I've seen in ages...
