inspired by feyodor's beck thread. i'm saying dylan's blood on the tracks
Wish that had been written about me :(
i thought it was just albums to soundtrack a break up, not neccessarily those inspired by one.
good call. it's gonna go down as a classic i think
spending 3 winter months in solitude in norway is quite a hardcore way of getting over a break up.
Get Lonely by the Mountain Goats really nails that dead inside feeling.
I think this qualifies.
One Word Extinguisher
Tunnel Of Love
Dylan: Blood on the Tracks
Smog: The Doctor Came At Dawn
Knapsack: This Conversation Is Ending, Starting Right Now
Way to Normal - especially, 'The Bitch Went Nuts'
(Not necessarily the best break up album ever, but certainly a recent example).
The Wedding Present - Seamonsters
I like Ladies and Gentlemen... by Spiritualized as well.
see this through & leave
i don't know if it was actually inspired by a break-up, but most of the tracks are vengeful, break-up songs. this is definitely my choice to blast when some guy does me wrong!
but aren't large parts of Ys by Joanna Newsom directly inspired by her break up with Noah Georgeson? 'Monkey & Bear' and 'Only Skin' in particular.
If that qualifies, that. If not, Blood on the Tracks. So bitter. And also notable for the fact he completely fucking backtracked on Desire.
etc. A twinge of regret, no? Especially after the vitriol of Idiot Wind and the like...
but i thought there was a mixture of vitriol, regret, remorse etc on BOTT. that's what makes it so great, it covers the whole spectrum of conflicting emotions. 'if you see her, say hello' for example, very much the opposite to 'idiot wind'
to someone called Sara and the marriage broke up...and then you listened to this song without having heard it before. Just imagine. I may have to take this elsewhere but this happened to me! Thanks Bob.
But I'd say Leonard Cohen's first album.
