They're miming among some dancing people on an american cable access tv show, but it's definitely them!
Mainliner, Dan Deacon, TV On the Radio...
What the fuck is going on?
It's the only clip of Mainliner i've ever seen. Plus they mime along with 'Dirty Water' at the end in the same sort of configuration as the actual Standells in their video:
Some sort of black magic going on here
"Chic-a-Go-Go is a public-access television children's dance show that airs on Chicago Access Network Television (CAN-TV). The show bills itself as "Chicago's Dance Show for Kids of All Ages"."
Sleater-Kinney, Shellac, Fugazi, Built to Spill, Country Teasers and Sonic Youth have been on it too.
bit like Pancake Mountain then! Nobunny was on it too
I would've thought that mask would've scared the kids
I'd love to see Lightning Bolt on it
The 'Dirty Water' bit is the best
YOU GUYS RAWK, I DON'T CARE WHERE YOU'RE FROM!
no Nanjo though BUT STILL
UK Tour being booked also. YESS
and I'm getting excited!
very exciting. This partial reunion is going to thrash the Black Flag partial reunion things
Shame there's no Nanjo but really pleased that Makoto Kawabata and Koji Shimura are getting a chance to play again - they've hardly done anything since Mainliner broke up
This is the best music news I've heard for ages!
Come on London show...
the best track might be the cd only bonus one though, whassthatabout
kawabata's guitar playing might be the daftest/most glorious ever. It's like Sonny Sharrock with no notes all the way through the album
Have to admit I was a little bit dubious when I realised that it was the guy from Bo Ningen that was replacing Nanjo (Bo Ningen are great and everything, but, you know) but he slots in perfectly and Shimura and especially Kawabata are just monumental all the way through. The live shows should be something else.
Have you heard the new(ish) Green Flames LP dude? It's the old High Rise line up with Tabata Mitsuru (from Zeni Geva / Acid Mothers Temple & The Cosmic Inferno) replacing Nanjo (like this current version of Mainliner they changed the name of the band out of respect for Nanjo). It's properly great as well - think you'd dig it the most if you haven't heard it already. Someone should definitely arrange a joint tour...
really love the original high rise stufff, will check it out
needs to check em out. Weird that High Rise - Nanjo and Mainliner - Nanjo are releasing records at the same time.
Bo Ningen guy is different to Nanjo especially in the way he sings but it definitely works. And that guitar playing is just mad. I don't think anyone else would play in that ridiculous a fashion for an entire album. So good.
Full Mainliner UK tour is going to be announced this week I think
