Which two or three albums or EPs do I start with please? Thanks.
Keep it Like a Secret, by miles.
after that, the rest are all pretty much on par with each other. i'd probably go for Perfect From Now On and You In Reverse if i was you though.
My favorite is Ancient Melodies of the Future, second would be Keep It Like A Secret.
It's starting to piss me off, people saying it's Built to Spill's best. Because it's not. It's shit. Maybe if you don't listen to any album more than 3 times, it's their best. It's best until the 4th time, but then you realise it's shit. For that reason, you should start with it. Then get There's Nothing Wrong With Love, because that is DEFINITELY THEIR BEST. But it's a bit samey at times, and quite long, so I wouldn't start with that. Plus it's nice to find things get better after listening to Keep It Like A Secret. Then get Perfect From Now On, because it's like their epic, and it's good, but it's not very accessible, at least not compared to their other albums.
I'm so fucking right. Start with Perfect From Now On? What the fuck? No.
Anyway, Keep It Like A Secret has Broken Chairs on it. Which is brilliant. And The Plan and Carry The Zero are two of their most accessible tunes.
now now boys!

sorry adam benjamin pal, but keep it like a secret is not shit. it's a great, great album.
what disease makes you not wee much?
but not the redux. FACT.
then 'there's nothing wrong with love' and 'keep it like a secret'. ancient melodies, you in reverse and doug's solo work are all pretty damn good too.
You In Reverse (purely for the Neil Young brilliance of Goin' Against Your Mind)
Keep It Like A Secret
In that order, should be able to get them for about 15 quid all told off amazon marketplace. Velvet Waltz is my favourite BTS song, off Perfect From Now On
because its the one u saw live and liked that right :)
are There's Nothing Wrong With Love and Keep It Like A Secret. Both are worth getting, KILAS (good acronym) is more consistent but TNWWL (not as good an acronym) has Car on it, which is one of the most perfect songs ever written.
Is still their most accessible, I think. Happiness and Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss are probably the two "poppiest" tunes he wrote.
Plus, "Trimmed and Burning" might be my favorite song. So, there's that going for it.
don't waste your money on any bloody records by Built to Spill!
I can safely say There's Nothing Wrong With Love and Perfect From Now On are their best.
is really great, too, and hasn't had enough recommendation in this thread.
Anyone dissing Keep It Like A Secret is an idiot.
"There's Nothing Wrong With Love" has "Car" on it, and that's the best Built To Spill song ever written.
"Keep It Like A Secret" has "Carry The Zero" and that's pretty phenomenal too.
"Perfect From Now On" is probably the most consistent album throughout.
You can't go wrong with any of these 3 records basically.
<3 carry the zero
except to add that 'you in reverse' has some amazing guitar work, and has 'goin' against your mind' and 'traces'. ALSO consistently brilliant throughout.
so, get them all! (ancient melodies... is very underrated too)
It was slow and long
I wrote the words and the music wrong
but life goes on.....................
