heard this for the first time yesterday, and WOAH. No idea how I missed out on this band back in the day.
Whole album is great too. Shame they've not got round to following it up just yet... Still, 7 years is a pretty reasonable time to follow up a debut album, isn't it?! :-0
literally no hope there really, at all. Gave the rest a listen and the only one I remember was the 40 seconds shitty nu-metal one, but I'll give it another try, if only for how brilliant this song is.
Grounded, Cemented Shoes, Tongue Tied and Losing Touch... Not really a weak moment on the whole thing. I've come back to it so many times since it came out.
But yes, amazing band - Finelines is a stunning debut, and the B-sides compliation Between the Lines is pretty good as well. It's so frustrating how they've ground to a halt (they released a surprisngly good single War of the Worlds last year, before returning to silence), but they really do seem to have helped to kick off the whole shoegaze revival that's going on. One of the (very) few records I liked when I was 12 that I still do!
and Cemented Shoes were both cracking singles, especially considering the mainly Nu-Metal / Acoustic Dadrock climate at the time, but I thought Finelines was pretty disappointing - overlong, repetitive, just a bit dull. They totally overdid the whole guitar pedal thing too. The fact that a load of my friends loved it too made it even worse. I think I actually gave my copy to one of my friends, or swapped it for an Everclear album or something.
HOWEVER was great to see them at Offset in August, real blast from the past. Played a lot of new stuff too so maybe new album isnt far off? Aren't they touring this month or am I making that up?
why does a load of your friends loving it make it worse?
I might have liked it more had it not been totally overplayed at parties and the guitarist in my band at the time going on about how great they were, and stuff like that.

I used to love the first (and..er.. only album) but haven't listened in ages.
it's a maybe to that Manc date, depending on how I get on with the rest of the album.
fan back in the day. Finelines was a really good debut album. It was all about them, Muse and Cay back in 2001!
but Muse are blatantly terrible, whereas these guys are actually really good in a not-quite-blatant way.
I really, really used to adore this band and 'Finelines' remains one of my favourite records of the 00s. I loved that dreamy guitar sound and the way they married it to some fantastic pop melodies. Massive shame they've never followed it up. Anyone get that EP they put out a couple of years back? Sounded decent. Surely there's more to come?
Had a cover of Shame about Ray on the B side.
New record next year, definitely.
Hopefully they'll have sorted out their utterly shit Myspace by then as well.
seeing My Vitriol and Cay at the first Reading i went to, and Idlewild seeming like the best band on the planet.
Of course back then, we didn't call it Reading, we called it 'The Reading Festival Of Arts, Crafts and Haberdashing', and we all drank hops and dressed in our finest and widest brimmed homburgs. We smoked too much when we drank too much, and when we argued, old Syd Barret made us laugh. Ho ho, he'd make us laugh at our conversational skills, or lack of. What a hoot it all was.
Anyone know the actual reason for their slackness?
Oh shit you are right....I forgot about the time My-Fucking-Vitriol sold out wembley stadium. A decent debut, Tongue Tied and Cemented Shoes are great tracks, but still stumbling trying to release a follow up album is utterly pathetic.
What was I thinking!
Always Your Way is such a choon. Think I saw My Vitriol about 5 times in the space of 2 years back in my angst laden teenage years.
