Would love to see them reform for a few shows.
they are genius. I saw them live twice - absolutely superb.
but the thing is: they won't reform, came close but it didn't happen.
don't want them to reform though - i know they nearly did but apparently liz sings completely differently now - might be a huge disappointment
but don't reform, pls
over half my life since 1983. I have all my vinyl repeated in cd too.
Mrs knees also owns several copies of what I have (from before we met)
Check out also their work in This Mortal coil ('Another day' and 'song to the siren') also with Harold budd (the moon and the melodies) he's influencesd a lot of their ambient (non guitar) sweeps (I think)
Another fan put it so brilliantly to describe Liz Frasers singing to people who havnt heard
"WHat Jimi hendrix was to electric guitar, She is to vocals"
The band actually appeared together the other day, winning an award (think it was Q mag) - so perhaps they've managed to put their problems behind them? Robin is certainly strapped for cash - he makes great music, but I don't think anyone buys it. I recall they all got screwed over by 4AD back catalogue royalties, and get something like 1p for every sale now. Liz has been working on a solo LP for years, but whether that will ever get released, who knows...
I reckon a reunion would be good though.
My favourite band since I first heard them on the whistle test in jan '85 I think. Got to see them 4 times on 3 tours, fantastic everytime, despite one of them being at the Birmingham Hummingbird. They did get a lifetime achievement award from Q a few months ago and all turned up to receive it, and looked delighted in the pictures so you never know about a reformation. I wouldn't say they were minted at all, where would all the cash come from? Seeing Liz sing with Massive Attack last year, she could still sing anything from the back catalogue I believe. Voices usually get stronger with experience don't they, and Liz had/has one of the best voices ever. Reformation- of course I'd go, to every show possible. But I would possibly become very cross if the crowd even murmured...
Liz could only sing one vocal layer (instead of the polished entangling of voices on the records) and sounded a lot wilder, occasionally she'd almost scream stuff, and it wasn't always clear whether she actually wanted to be there (i'd be interested to hear live boots actually). when it was good it was very good but i think they were more of a studio band IMO.
hadn't occurred to me look on youtube!
Where is Emerald Pilot - he is a massive Cocteaus fan, got me properly into them.
one of my all time favourite bands. Purely amazing. They'll never reform. They're all too happy doing Bella Union and stuff. I'd almost urge them not to reform, unless they came out with a Loveless-esque shoegaze genius album. Then it would be ok! Bless those Scottish goblins.
I saw this thread t'other day, but since what you want from them simply won't ever happen I didn't feel like dashing your hopes. But of course, now someone else has, I'll jump on the bandwagon.
I'd give a limb to see them live. Maybe even two. But it's not going to happen - they came ever so close, they got offered ever so much money, and it still wasn't possible. The skin over some old wounds is very thin. If you want something to look forward to, badger Fraser to get her bloody solo album out.
and I was also lucky enough to see them live
