So, i love the new single...where do i start? I reckon i'm going to dig the new album...A worthy place to commence?
Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts. it's their best album and a decent starting point. But if you do like the new single, you probably won't go far wrong with the new albums admittedly.
and am hoping they'll do this year's DiSmas party :)
the new album is probably a good place to start and work backwards but all of his albums are equally great.
Aside from the single from earlier this year (Graveyard Girl), I've only heard Before the Dawn Heals Us, which I bought on the strength of Teen Angst, and I thought it was diabolical.
I figured that given the kind words I'd heard people pay the band that Before the Dawn must've just been a blip, but are you suggesting that their other stuff is comparable? Or is it just the "quality" that's comparable, and the sound, arrangements, etc. are markedly different across the different releases? Certainly, "Graveyard Girl" is very different from anything from Before the Dawn. I'd have been tempted to buy the new album, having heard that song, but I've learnt my lesson....
is without a doubt one of the best albums of 2008 for me. It's such a beautiful album with this spell binding quality to transport me back to a decade and a time I have always found a bit magical. Few albums are able to capture the spirit of an earlier time - most simply pay homage to it but nothing more, but this is both greatly modern in and wonderfully retro.
I would plead with anyone - even if they had never listened to anything M83 has ever done prior - to give this album the chance to enchant you.
Though the final track is indulgent beyond belief (10 mins long - come on!)it does not detract from the album's quality over all.
that last track creates an image in my mind of a large sky and a setting sun going down over the hills, but in this case the sun keeps peeking back
(sadly I hadn't realised that M83 had a back catalogue, until this thread - durrrh - I will remedy that)
I haven't really bothered listening to it since it was unny outside though.
I really got into Before The Dawn Heals us ages ago, but now I don't really bother with it and I haven't heard the rest of them.
good stuff anyway.
THAT IS ALL.
will be gig of the year!
