A while later, it's still pretty amazing.
are brilliant though and I really want to hear what stuff they do in this kinda vain next. The noisey in your face with a dance pulse should be done more often.
is definitely noise/dance. great stuff, they've been honeing their skills on the us tour so hopefully their support slot with mogwai on friday will be immense.
have a wicked time
goosebumps I say.
I should try and see them live really to get them in full effect on a huge system.
man, not fair
listen to black dice if you want that, they are so good, uck buttons are so bad
One and a hlaf times in an hour.
My album of the year. They were immense when i saw them in cardiff in february aswell. Unfortunately ive yet to see them since and gutted i cant go to the Mogwai gig on friday.
that they named an LP after a made up marketing myth by an average Scandinavian fashion brand
and according to LastFM I've listened to Bright Tomorrow 62 times, to which you must add my plays of the vinyl.
I'm seeing them tonight in Manchester.
whitehouse for bedwetters, i tell ya.
its just so...two dimensional and safe for a noise record, and it doesnt offer anything to categorise it as anything more than a noise record. ive seen them 3-4 times live and each time they've played basically exactly the same set, and had no stage presence
and I like noise
I don't even know what I'm trying to say, except that I don't really like it.
I'm planning on giving it another chance soon.
I like the fact that it winds up a lot of proper 'noise' fans; they get called 'bedwetters', 'wimpy' etc, like noise has to always be a harshness pissing contest ffs! It doesn't matter how you categorise it, which genre you apply it to, it's a great record. It's coherent, it builds and it's just just damn fun to listen to.
it sounds samey and a dull barrage of noise to me
It's probably the most fun record I listened to all of last year. The bits where it really kicks off and the drum beats kick in actually make me mosh like a loon (as long as no-one's looking).
Have you tried listening to it LOUD?
I know it's all subjective but it didn't strike me as the type of music, that people would think was fun, that's all.
After about 6 minutes of the first track I'm on my feet! I love how it builds and layers and then the distorted vocals come in, it just builds up and builds up and sets the tone for the rest of the record perfectly.
Agree to disagree?
like I said before, maybe I need to give it another chance.
the album annoyed me so much when i listened to it that I returned it the next day in protest.
It's Top Shop Noise kids, you're being duped.
'It's Top Shop Noise'! Oh My God! Someone has taken 'noise' which should be harsh and totally inaccesible and made by pale men in cellars and distributed only on C90s and made it (whisper it) 'poppy' and 'accessible' and 'danceable'. And yes, the norms in topshop might (conceivably) dig it! Arrrrgghhh! Retreat to Atari Teenage Riot Live in Brixton and repeat 'I do believe in Merzbow, I do believe in Merzbow....'
although F**k Buttons haven't grabbed me thus far, you're right about people calling it things like "Top shop noise", it's pretty stupid.
It's not even that accessible, maybe in noise circles it is, but you couldn't get a group of your average joes, stick this on and expect them to understand what the hell was happening.
If you're a CCCC fan it probably sounds unbearably fluffy and lightweight.
I think it helps not to think of it as noise at all. I think it does to 'dance' what Times New Viking do to 'pop' - dress it up with a load of distortion so that you get your sweet poppy centre inside a fuzzy noisy crunchy shell.
People should judge music on its own merits, who cares what genre it's supposed to fall under. I didn't find it very dancey at all though, funnily enough I'd have probably described as noise myself, not that this matters.
How long did it take to click with you?
A lot of records take a long time to click with me but not that one. Maybe it's just a marmite record, you love it or you don't.
and the rest of the album is as well
actually my number 2 this year
and it was released in 2007. Haha :)
Feels like ages ago. Actually now you say that, it did appear in the poll for album of the year on this site, I'd forgotten about that.
HAVE YOU LISTENED TO IT WITH THE VOLUME UP VERY LOUD YET
Sweet Love for Planet Earth is one of my favourite songs ever
if they really really kick off in more of a dance style like Sweet love and bright 'morow or at least get some mad remixes commisioned then they will have earned that fuck they hit the button with.
He used sweet love as part of his set, with a really good minimal techno-ish backing behind it all. Was a really sweet set as well.
They got Andrew Weatherall to do a remix of that I think he knows where its at for crossover dance maddness.
if it was indeed his version I dunno it may have been a Holden special.
I think fuck buttons really fit with that kind of thing.
They sound awesome in that find of environment, some of the new stuff they played when supporting mogwai was heading in that direction too and really rocked.
I look forward to hearing it
here is a youtube link
he is a bit of a legend is weatheral
i bought him a coke :D
that sounds brilliant
for seventy nine pennies
The whole album just seems to want to be Things Will Never Be The Same by Black Dice, and it basically fails. It's not that it's 'soft' or too 'pop' or anything, I just think it's dull most of the time.
