You know, "sounding" as in "sound"
Preferably not of the wispy nu-folk AOR persuasion
BIG THICK SOLID ROCK SOUND
it's FUCKIN METALLICA!
my loss i guess
I listened to a tape and I think it might filter out the douchebag annoyance frequencies. I have no diagram to prove this however
the analogue warmness would probably take off some of the sharp edges. But i can't really be bothered
Dunno, it might sound alright on speakers, but listening to Paisley Reich on headphones was unbearable
maybe i shouldn't
wonderful production, for starters. It's not overt, but you know it's there.
Secondly, some incredible guitar sounds, and a beautiful basstone.
It kinda depends on what your after I guess... But I'm guessing you want a bit of brutality as apose to the nu-folk balls...
Chickenhawk - S/T
is a big beats full of riffs and general hugeness, it sounds pretty tasty.
Atlas Sound & Deerhunter
are very lush indeed...
Maths + Throats - Split EP
is pretty blistering
Starkey - Ethemeral Exhibits
Is out next month on Planet Mu and my god it's good. It sounds huge and shiney and lush, with some brutal bass and bouncing beats.
Distance - Repercusions
again out on Planet Mu soon, its got some HUGE bass as expected from Distance and a really cool yet subtle metal influence to the tunes. Really well produced, to my ears anyway.
or something like that, Its a bit like Deerhunter but with less guitar and more electronics. I really like it.
But I find that album a bit dull and repetitive. Much prefer Deerhunter.
Has the new Distance leaked yet? Looking forward to that.
I'm hopfuly doing a lil interview with him too
It's a sweet album
so I have far to much time on my hands so I just put on music at pretty much every opertunity. I really suck at sleeping too so that gives me more time for music. When I eventualy get a job and all that crap I will no doubt slow down a little but I've always listend to loads of the stuff. No substances neccacery....
its funny you should mention that in this thread, we had one review that said the production was awful, i was pleased with it though....
nowt awful about it at all
in what way?
i think it's their most well rounded album, sonically speaking. It has a fullness without being overbearing, a beautifully joined together sound in terms of the individual parts and some tasty electronica flourishes. Not sure about it as an album, but it sounds pretty good
it sounds really nice I love the production on it, I'm just not really moved by the songs.
and microcastle by deerhunter
and not forgetting portishead
shame they forgot the songs
mp3s dont do it justice
yeah i really like the production on it.
It sounds so ancient and warm and lived-in.
It has everything you need, bit of pixies, bit of pink floyde, bit of previous members bands, DFA1970 it is all in there and it just doesn't give up.
Best album of the year so far.
Toss up between Metronomy, Of Montreal and Gang Gang Dance
And 'Let The Blind...' sounds absolutely fantastic, a really clean but detatched sound that fits the mood of the songs perfectly. TVOTR and Of Montreal sound pretty great production-wise, but Atlas Sound is probably the most impressive for me in terms of how well it suits the atmosphere of the record.
David Byrne & Brian Eno
Listening today made me realise how great the production is, let alone the content lurking inside...
Agree on the self-titled Vampire Weekenda album, it sounds fantastic.
Times New Viking - it's like having 240 volts plugged in your ear holes, or
The Mae Shi - there are moment in HILLYH where it sounds as if those volts had been stuck somewhere else
but then you already knew that.
Both Grails records sound wonderful in completely different ways. The Alps record sounds really lovely and warm too, and I love the production on Radiance Of Shadows by Nadja; so super-saturated it defies belief.
i've not heard Dungen yet, but i'm expecting very good things. Very very good things. I'm intringued by the Grails records as well, Burning of Impurities has some mightily deep, perfectly formed soundscapes. What are the others like?
is kind of similar in terms of production, with lots of space and depth in the mix. Doomsdayer's Holiday is really, really murky; there's so much going on, but it takes a hell of a lot of listens to really pick everything out of the mix. Some pretty neat production tricks on the drums too.
Pyramids for me, it's completely engrossing and the vocals are like a texture
