So I'm giving Psychocandy another listen
I only listened to it briefly once, yonks ago.
top 5 JAMC songs pliss.
Like Psychocandy with better songs.
But I remember playing 'Never Understand' at bowel rocking volume thru my Dad's stereo when everyone was out and thinking 'fuck yeah!' top 5-ish then:
1) Never Understand
2) April Skies
3) Far Gone and Out
5) Reverence (or You Trip Me Up)
I preferred the Pixies version of 'Head On'
I still believe the JAMC got better as they went along. Therefore their best albums should read something like this
2. Honeys Dead
Thank fuck the housemates are out really.
The real JAMC album ranking:
1. =Honey's Dead
5. Stoned & Dethroned
Does anyone know what's going on with their re-union, by the way? Looked like they might have been planning a proper tour and/or a new album, but they just seem to keep playing the occasional London show every few months...
Honey's Dead is fantastic. My top 5 :
1. Never Understand
4. Far Gone and Out
That era's tunes take on a whole new dimension at massive volume! Happy days.
all the dissing of psychocandy? it's their masterpiece
It's a great album but the general consensus is that it's not their best. It's one of those albums I believe that people talk about more than actually listen to and also sounded utterly unique at the time but has been copied again and again since. If I fancy listening to some JAMC I'm mre likely to grab Automatic, Honeys Dead or even Sound of Speed before Psychocandy.
i think people say stuff like that just to be different. like people who say loveless isn't mbv's best album. just nonsense really
and anyone who says loveless isn't the best mbv album are just talking shite
I've just always preferred Honey's Dead - better songs. I'm with you on people who just say they like a different album to the 'classic' one just to seem different; but then people who toe the line on the 'classic' consensus without thiking or listening for themselves are annoying too.
Love what you love and make no apologies for it.
Automatic is my fave, and Honey's Dead and Psychocandy are equal seconds.
Truth is, while Psychocandy gets all the critical acclaim, I reckon that's more about the fact it was so innovative at the time, and the continued (ahem) reverence shown to that album is more in recognition of its originality (at the time) than the its excellent song-writing or whatever.
Taken in a post-Psychocandy world, where feedback/distortion are completely accepted components of the music creation/production repertoire, Psychocandy loses some of its specialness, and since it's songs aren't as strong as some of those from later-JAMC, it's not surprising to see some people prefer to listen to Honey's Dead, etc.
So hard to choose. Not really my top 5, but any way:
Lowlife (from Rollercoaster EP)
Far Gone and Out
Some Candy Talkin'
Kill Surf City
