I have been listening to the Helms Alee album non stop since the day of its release and my purchasing of it.
It is by far one of the best albums I have heard in the last two years, quick summary of Helms Alee courtesy of beloved Last.FM.
Helms Alee is a Seattle three-piece formed by Ben Vrellen (Harkonen, Roy, These Arms Are Snakes) Dana James and Hozoji Margullis. All members of the band exchange lead vocal duties and occasionally teams up for harmonies.
Why do I think it is so good. Quite frankly it is incredibly well put together, the songs are all seriously intense, and seem to plat together this intertwined mesh of sounds which range from My Bloody Valentine type swirly female vocal led bruisings into Kyuss like bass blasted chuggy stoner riffs before slamming you back on the mat with a clean cut kiss to your Grandma with soft lips and a loving embrace.
This is volatile in a seemingly controlled way.
I don't know how many people in the UK have picked up on this band, I discovered them through my love for anything that has transpired since the departure of Botch.
There is literally nothing I can compare it to out at the moment, it reminds me of the first time I heard Prayer To God by Shellac and thought my life was never going to be the same.
Opinions on this band/album, have you got it? What do you think? Who wants to chip in for air fair to get them to the UK next year?
