Everyone knows his covers are best. Not the Brel ones, though.
but Scott really takes hold of some the more MOR, traditional songs, performing them with his own slant. The Brel covers are more a case of Walker trying to emulate his hero, and the same is very true of much of Scott 4. It's a person trying to reproduce the music he loves off his own back, but not quite succeeding - a few of the tracks are weak and a fair few are unrefined. And to be honest, i prefer a lot of his self written songs from the earlier albums
Or at least, if he is, he's doing a dreadful job as he sounds nothing like Brel and makes no attempt to apart from a slight phony French accent. Great stuff but a million miles from Brel.
Scott 4's great but overrated.
but he's clearly in Brel's shadow, in a self imposed fashion at least. His status as a major Brel fanboy probably weighs those covers down with a large amount of aspiration, perhaps limiting them (good though they are)
i agree though. At that stage of his career Walker was superb as a performer, but sometimes a little amateurish in his own creations. And much as i love Scott 4, it is a little bit simplistic at times, probably by way of necessity rather than choice
Including the funky 'Use ME', the hilarious 'Jean The Machine' and the eminently danceable "Stormy"
The Sun Aint Gonna Shine Any More?
I do. That one.
but I'm not super indie. I like 'Do I Love You?' the best cos it was written by Paul Anka and mentions the bible which makes me chuckle.
You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling is also well good, but wrong brothers.
