For a quid today and I'm quite impressed so far.
Despite having some of their singles I never got it. To be honest I was put off by all of the negative reviews. But, if I saw it for a quid I'd be very chuffed. Is it due a re-appraisal or have I missed it already?
listened to the 2 cd's yet but I think it's pretty good indie fare. 3 or 4 tracks, Floodlit World, Stay Young... are definitely better than average. I hear nothing that deserves negative reviews.
and then they should have trimmed it to a single album, then it would have been perfect.
It took ten years but its definitely a grower.
I remember going to pick this up in my lunch break at school, the first day it came out.
is one of the great singles of the 1990s. "Gary Glitter's gone to seed, so who will lead us now?" Saw them supporting Pulp in Finsbury Park in 1998, great live band too.
Part Three and Part Four overlap. Part Three is about 15 minutes long :D
Shame the album was so over produced and bloated. If you like it, you may want to track down the singles from the album as they had good b sides and were a bit tighter and more raw.
The first single on Fierce Panda sounded brilliant, mainly because the songs hadn't yet had the kitchen sink thrown at them production-wise (though to be fair they always intended to be overblown in a prog stylee)
Their new material is ace too. Last year's 'Welfare State' single a case in point.
I bought it second hand in 2003 I think. I only picked up the "Stay Young" single on release. "Underwater Love Song" is an incredible B-side. I need to get hold of their other singles too. Welfare State/Sovereign is excellent; very much looking forward to some more new material!
i love everything they've ever done
incredible live band
saw a couple of their gigs since they came back, and i swear it feels exactly like it did first time around... i am totally caught up in their maelstrom again and cannot wait for the new album. i play everything picture probably 4 or 5 times a year which given that it came out 13 years ago and i have got a LOT more music to listen to in those 13 years, i think makes it pretty special.
to the new album.
Anyone have any details?
Fierce Panda are still going?! I had no idea. The last album I got through them was probably Transatlanticism.
and liking it so far.
