I have been listening to;
MGMT, Metronomy & Turin Brakes.
what's this like?
Rolo: some kind of hardcore-digital-jazz-core
Montana: Heavey heavey rock with a playful edge.
Skream: Dubstep mix album alot if it isn't my thing but I got it free and some of it is phat.
Burial: ambient UK garage.
Boxcutter: breaky dubstep.
This Town Needs Guns: melodic indie pop goodness, with a gleaming technical style.
Minilouge: minimal techno / house with an ambient and acidic vibe.
although it is helpful cos i hadn't heard og Rolo, Montana or Boxcutter.
I'm fairly new with Dubstep, Burial is amazing though. That Skream album didn't download for me. Any sites to get it from? Better than Benga?
Benga is on the Skream mix though, its pretty enjoyable its called Watch The Ride. My top tips for dubstep are Appleblim's dubstep allstars Vol.6 or just listening to Rinse fm or Sub Fm online. I don't have a clue about downlaoding stuff really I mostly get CD's.
You'll of heard of them very soon ;)
"The Beautiful Light" by Slow Down Tallahassee.
all the albums I've downloaded less-than-legally and finally deciding which ones i'm gonna keep and which ones I'm gonna get rid of.
Mos Def - Black on both Sides
Doves - Last Broadcast
Muse - Origin of Symmetry (though I am sad to see it go)
Gnarls Barkley - St Elsewhere (some brilliant tracks, but mostly underdeveloped)
Jay-Z - Black Album (it's fucking shit, apart from '99 Problems')
I 'obtained' the muse back catolog and can't see myself listening to it anytime soon. They are a great live band. but there are so many better albums around.
How does the suede one compare to coming up?
if I got the chance, at a reasonable price (ha!) i'd go see em live. But as far as albums go, it's just too much to listen to. And it's a shame, because OoS has some great songs on it. But the wanky pretentious shit ruins it as an album for me.
Wouldn't know about Coming Up. But Suede is awesome, i forget how spacey their music is.
Oh, and of course, been listening to Dear Science. A LOT. It just gets better and better with every damn listen.
mainly, and a bit of TVOTR and Animal Collective
I have been listening to that a bit as well its pretty cool.
Saw them in Paris this week, amazing.
its growing on me I wasn't impressed on first listen. Now I really like it but haven't really conected with it, it sounds so nice though really shiney and lush.
Not the biggest fan. Is there like a Greatest Hit available?
is pretty good as far as a 'Greatest Hits' comp goes.
Just get Low then Hunky Dory
Mercury Rev - Midnight Snowflake
Various Artists - Ghostly Swim
Thee More Shallows - Book of bad breaks
deerhunter, red sparrows and this town needs guns mainly.
I'm going to 'obtain' this album this weekend. A few people have mentioned it now.
A compilation called of Sabbath-esque proto-metal called Downer Rock Genocide, and a weird 70's album called Rusty Rock by Whisky David.
John Parish & Polly Harvey - Dance hall at Louse point
Rolling Stones - Goat's Head Soup
Wes Montgomery - Smokin' at the Half Note
Johnny Burnette Trio
and Rolo Tomassi mainly
old earth or new style earth?
Future of the Left
The Fall (mostly Hex Enduction Hour and Imperial Wax Solvent)
Belle & Sebastian (Dear Catastrophe Waitress)
Primal Scream (Vanishing Point and Xtrmntr)
Mercury Rev -(Snowflake Midnight. Dont bother, its awful)
I think it's superb, a real departure from Secret Migration and back to their early days. People Are Unpredictable is one of my fave tunes of the year so far.
Good stuff on the other listens though!
I've been listening to:
Mercury Rev (surprise!)
TV on the Radio
They Came From The Stars I Saw Them
u.s. girls - introducing
mister cee best of biggie smalls unreleased and rare 71-track mixtape experience
t.i. - paper trail although i aint really feelin it
Got to love a bit of Sam when the sun shines!
And the new Cold War Kids record. I quite like that.
And had a listen to the 1st half of the new Oasis record.
Hair Police - Certainty Of Swarms
Boxcutter - Glyphic
Trash Talk - S/T
Skaters - Dispersed Royalty Ornaments
my mum really likes this album, she keeps on asking for it to listen to in the car hehhehehe. She says it reminds her of growin up and going to dub / reggae nights.
Its a wicked album.
I go through phases of listening to it. I really like Flo'Dan. Skeng!
Gregory and the Hawk's new album - joint fave with London Zoo; Romance of Young Tigers - extreme post-rock; Blood, Sweat and Tears - greatest hits - just amazing; Rob Marr EP, Holly Dearden new album (pleasant piano stuff), Chase and Status new album - fucking great.
also been jamming emeralds - solar bridge - skaters heads might be into this
White birch by Codeine
Oceans will rise by The Stills (return to some sort of form-some quietly addictive songs)
nice to see them remembered.
got it on vinyl early this year and dug it out again prior to seeing them this week. Pretty smashed sounding, in keeping basically. i've not heard the Emeralds record, I'll get hold of it
I don't have most of the stuff you just listed, better hit the d/l and have a listen. What is Chase & Status like?
Blitzen Trapper (very good)
the week that was (not bad)
golden animals (very very good)
the gaslight anthem (average so far)
Lisa Hannigan (quite good actually)
The Field Mice
The June Brides
It's indie-pop all the way!
This has just dropped on Tempa. Got it the other day and it's pure class. If you like your Dubstep-Techno cross then this one is for you.
but haven't got round to it yet, Tempa are a bit hit'n'miss for me but the Headhunter album looks wicked and I just got the 12" promo of TRG's Tempa tracks the other week from them, so they seem to be doing it right at the moment.
the 'new' lo-fi version of city & eastern songs
all night long.
TV On The Radio, Worried About Satan, Bloc Party, Xiu Xiu :)
Taraf De Haïdouks
The Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir
Cutting Pink With Knives
A nice healthy mix I'd say.
TVOTR - Dear Science (obviously)
The Walkmen - You and Me
Dizzee Rascal - Boy In The Corner
Flying Lotus - Los Angeles (still so good)
Fightstar - Alternate Endings (it really is actually good)
Future Of The Left - Curses (fell in love with this all over again)
deerhunter - microcastle
philip glass - symphony no. 5
errors - it's not something..
The Associates - Fourth draw down
Texas is the reason-Do you know who you are?
The Album Leaf-in a safe place
unwound-leaves turn inside you
the appleseed cast-peregrine
Minutemen-Double nickels on the dime
Drive like Jehu-s/t
The Dismemberment plan-change
...fire name on the list, you?
also TV on the Radio and Bon Iver.
From here on in though it will be fucked up
and a preposterous amount of Dananananaykroyd.
by which I refer not to a brilliant U2 song but to my love for the band This Town Needs Guns, their new album Animals, and anything that ever influenced them or passed them by in a street and made then look up
so besides This Town Needs Guns, also Cap'n Jazz, American Foortball, Owls, Don Callabero, Maps & Atlases, Jonquil, Joan of Arc, and Meet Me in St Louis
and then Burial - just to bring me down to earth
Dirty Projectors and Guided By Voices
Snow Patrol - Songs for Polarbears
Bitta Fighting With Wire
n THAT seasick steve album
