£8 in Fopp. Worth getting?
I'll take that as a 'no' then!
But you could probably pick it up for a fiver somewhere?
The Basement Tapes is okaaaay, but one of the Dylan things I listen to the least. Might just be me though, as it gets great write-ups all over the place, but it just strikes me as pretty half-arsed - crummy lyrics, crap tunes, lame performances, plus too much Thingy Robertson whatever his name is.
So it basically depends how much other Dylan stuff you have - there's about 20 classic albums you need to get before this one...
If you haven't got Highway 61, Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks (my fave) and several others don't bother.....its a bit dull.
I have it and haven't played it since I bought it in Fopp for £5.
most of the 'obvious' Bob Dylan albums, but thanks for the tip. I'll probably get John Wesley Harding for £3 instead.
what a daft question - I wouldn't pompously tell people "why do you download music?" - that's just what people do, I don't care either way. But I like to buy music still, I find it enjoyable.
the official basement tapes is kinda bullshit, most of the band jams on it weren't recorded in the basement with dylan but were recorded afterwards and put on the album so there were more tracks with those cats singing. a tree with roots is a more authentic (and better) record. its probably my fave record, much prefer this dude just rollin and reelin through some old timey weirdo jams rather than boring singer songwriter confessional shit
no way is this record better than on top of the world by 8ball & mjg
Also have I'm Not There and the French Girl on them. So worth downloading - see expectingrain.com forums.
Quality not always as good though.
Corrects himself and reiterates point in same post.
any sane people around tonight?
John Wesley Harding is lyke my favourite, defo get it!
Which others do you have? Permission to pressure you into buying more pls tanx x
Bringing It All Back Home
Blonde on Blonde
Blood on the Tracks
Time Out of Mind
Love and Theft
And the Bootleg series volumes 4,5 and 6
Well, you've got the big five covered, good stuff, plus those bootleg series discs are storming...
I'd defo say John Wesley Harding should be yr next stop, then Desire and Self Portrait (though everyone hates that, so maybe it's just me). The Hard Rain live disc (Rolling Thunder tour) has some awesome stuff on it too, as does Bootleg Series 7 (No Direction Home soundtrack). Then it'll be time to stock up on Another Side Of and Times They Are A-Changin'. Then you'll just go mad & buy the lot.

Bootleg Series 1-3 & John Wesley Harding
Otherwise, all absolute essentials covered.
But especially Bootleg 1-3

it's the best one
i really like basement tapes
its got a nice atmosphere about it.
i shall be digging about on the internet for a tree with roots though
All Dylan bootlegs are available from RapidShare in the forums.
BobsBoots.com gives the song details.
A Tree With Roots is very similar to the 5-disc Genuine Basement Tapes, also available.
