I was going to pick up "The Back Light" yesterday, is this the best place to start with them?
Accidentally turned up a day too early for the Lambchop gig. Best mistake I ever made. Definitely one of the best gigs I've ever been to as well. Does the DVD do it justice?
But all the others are great. I'd start with Feast of Wire. It's the absolute definition of alt-country/americana. The mariachi influences are still strong on there but the songwriting is stronger than on the others.
Hot Rail and Black Light are awesome too though.
is probably the easiest one to get into but a lot of it is not that country/americana-ish so hot rail might be best if you like the horns and stuff.
saw them last week in oxford, they were great as usual.
And the new album.
who sticks up for garden ruin, here. that's my favourite, it has the strongest songs. feast of wire is over-reliant on strings to disguise weaker songs.
does anyone remember them on Jools Holland a few years ago when they wiped the floor with everyone else? They played Ballad of Cable Hogue and Fade I think. Was surprised not to find any youtube footage.
Anyway, yeah, great band.
