So far, so fucking brilliant.
you might as well do a Radiohead. Saving tracks off myspace is like taking candy from a baby.
on monday, I'll have to make the trip down to rough trade me-thinks :)
96kbps or whatever it is?
I'm not really feeling it so far.
I will get the CD and play it on a stereo then see. I was expecting more after the masses of love I have seen. Love Dog is my fave so far.
But not amazing. I'd only heard Golden Age - too lazily influenced by a single band, leave that to LCD Soundsystem TVotR are much better than that - and Dancing Choose (terrible name!) - sounds like that cringey stuff that Block Party churn out these days. The first 2 tracks more than made up for it though.
Problem is that they have ironed out any of the rough edges that made them so brilliant. There is nothing to challenge the listener at all. While Cookie Mountain felt overwhelmingly heavy (and I don't mean in a 'rock' way) at times, they have gone in completely the opposite direction here. There is nothing awe-inspiring like Playhouses. It's like listening to Elbow. Easy to like but impossible to really, really love.
If any band deserves a mainstream breakthrough it's TVotR and I can see Dancing Choose on daytime rotation on Radio 1 but I hope that they don't completely lose sight of what made them stand out from the dross in the first place.
Sounds like Albert Ayler.
The perils of reviewing an album before the very end. Actually I like the horns all the way through. Could do with more skronk though.
what is that I love the sound of the word...
Think National Anthem by Radiohead or something. I fucking love the way that the horns break loose from the groove and take everything up a notch. You just can't do that in the same way with guitars.

a bit more scuzz and breaking out would go down a treat.
Will buy later today I think.
But not their best. Love Dog is by far the best track, and classic TVOTR. Not sure about the Family Tree track though, sounds like a better version of Coldplay to me!
Something sounds like a beter version of COLDPLAY? That band that everyone here slags mercilessly despite them knowing they're alright?
Heaven help us all if TVotR are putting out better ballads than a band who made their name on them can...
Get yer Chill Pills!
It's such a grower, didnt really get it when I first heard it.
like vintage '70's funk.
from the first few myspace listens.
Is it out today?
I will try and get it if I can to give it more spins.
listening to Stork and Owl...stunning.
