make me want to kill myself plz!
if this is all the internet can come up with
I don't think so
for the first time since 1999, I do fucking wonder why I own the CD single.
Duh & ftw
Richie Tenenbaum trying to kill himself and everything!
And I'd go with Something In the Way from that list above. Pretty down.
Simple. Haunting. Heartbreaking.
Depressing as fuck, but genius.
I remember listening to it on my ipod, when I was walking around times square in New York.
Everyone was in such a rush and it was really interesting listening to a song like that with all these frantic images going on all around you.
yeah so....Exit Music.
I'd recommend Remember (Walkin' In the Sand) and I Can Never Go Home Anymore.
The first concerns the narrator's love moving away, then sending a letter saying "You're chucked, love" and leaving her heart broken. The second is about how the girl in the song leaves home to live with a boy, eventually forgets about the boy, then returns home to find that her mother died of loneliness.
I love the Shangri-Las - overblown drama in the name of love, that ends in someone getting their heart torn out. I wish more music was made like this.

Piano version - good call
If you follow through, try and not make a big mess of it. Suicide isn't an excuse for poor manners.
'the sound of a man hanging on by his finger nails' as someone once said.
playing faith in rome after they'd heard about Tiananmen Square,
or 100 years by them is pretty depressing too

i'm listening to jandek now

what can you say? music doesn't get any more bleak or beautiful
All their songs are about doomed historical figures who end up dying in some horribly tragic way. How can you go wrong.

Pretty much the entirety of Electro-shock
About getting rid of an unwanted baby and probably the saddest song I know.
How to disappear completely!!
Quite dipressing really but bloody amazing full of emotion!!
The smiths- I know it's over
Listing to this alot these days shuld stop really, kinda lost hope which kinda makes me also wanna listen to How soon is now, which is full of loneliness and reminds me of myself!!!
I should really try and cheer up!! haha!

group of childhood friends move to london to seek fame and fortune but find the whole experience utterly miserable. record album about just how miserable. failed relationships, unrequited love, drug comedowns, getting older, not being a kid anymore, losing your friends...one of the most thoroughly depressing albums ever made.
Also what sarah said by death cab - "Love is watching someone die" A bucket kicker no doubt!
deal with it
is a bit grim..
...by Jets to Brazil
The Chalet Lines by Belle & Sebastian to this list.
It would a sad song regardless but the knowledge it's about a girl that Stuart really knew really brings a tear to the eye.
boy by the roadside
I posted this very song halfway up the thread. The 'ahhhhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhh' chorus alone is enough to make you get out the knives. Brrrrr.
That's another one that's pretty down
Seem to have a bleak quality to most of their songs...although it can easily be perceived as uber-uplifting. It depends on the listener's mood I suppose, as with most songs.
REM - Country Feedback
Manics - 4st 7lbs, Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky
Beck - Nobody's Fault But My Own
Smashing Pumpkins - Mayonaise *teen angst central*, most of Adore
I think Black Dog by Nick Drake wins it though. He sounds like he's about to fall apart.
your a wasted face
your a sad-eyed lie
your a holocaust
by daniel johnston/ jad fair is the saddest song i've ever heard.the first time i heard it was the twilight sad's cover version, which is also heartbreaking.
'wren' by us is pretty sad:
