Really really really really bloody good.
top 10 albums ever
And most likely, the next decade too.
There are things on that album that people are still trying to emulate now.
It was hardly surprising DP themselves couldn't be bothered to try and better it and instead went in the total opposite direction with Human After All (which on release seemed designed to be a quickly made, trashy dance record but which has subsequently been reborn, as it seems the real intent was for it to mesh and mash incredibly with Homework and Discovery material during the Alive 2007 tour.
But back to Discovery - there are moments of such simple pop production perfection on that album that major and minor dance acts will still be plundering it for ideas for years to come.
actually i find Discovery really boring and tiresome. The singles were flogged to death and I can't bear this record consequently. I prefer Homework actually.
"The singles were flogged to death and I can't bear this record consequently"
...turn off the radio. I simply don't listen to it, and certainly have no reason to turn it on again now John Peel's dead.
Homework is incredibly important in its own right, but it hasn't changed the face of dance like Discovery has.
we will have to agree to disagree on Discovery. i don't rate it. Sorry.
.....I do like Discovery but I think that Homework was more influential.
Discovery does have a "cheese" aspect which does put some people off....
Homework is king though and the last one is also brilliant. I love Discovery but its a little bit cheesey in places for me. Verdis Quo or however you spell it is one of my fave ever Daft Punk tracks.
has lots of unintentional humour.
discovery sold more than homework probably, if that's how you work out importance. pretty sure john peel never played anything from discovery, good album, though.
and everything to do with how little I listen to the radio these days.
Not listening to the radio means I never have music spoiled for me by being overplayed.
Which means, while I know that the Discovery singles were given excessive air-time, I never noticed, and they're still thrilling me to this day.
the songs from Discovery getting overplayed on the radio etc, maybe I just missed it all.
I just mainly remember Discovery being a very 'Marmite' album at the time - probably still is I guess.
but very bloody good obvious cheesy dance music.
it's not perfect. The second half is home to a lot of crap synth ballads. When you get past Crescendolls, there's only really High Life and Face To Face that are really essential, but those first 5 songs are absolutely perfect.
Homework was much, much better
is a statement so wrong it hurts. Homework is great but Discovery is even better.
but as mentioned above, too cheesy for me
parts of it that are a bit cheesy are the aforementioned synth ballads, though, Most of it is just a better produced progression from something like Teachers.
