Ok, I have the American Hardcore soundtrack, Minor Threat best of, Damaged by Black Flag and Bad Brains s/t.
'Milo Goes to College' or 'All'
But my hard drive died. For some reason I thought it was mid-90s...
minutemen - double nickels on the dime
the germs - (gi)
circle jerks - group sex
husker du - new day rising
negative approach - tied down
wipers - box set (3 albums, pleasingly cheap)
necros - tied up
Circle Jerks - Group Sex
Germs - What we do is secret
Most things by Poison Idea
That should do you for now.
My genre / decade awareness is really not so good.
But anyway - stock up on Big Black, you can't go wrong really.
Where should I start?
Personally I love 'Songs about Fucking' does exactly what it says on the tin. Fast and furious and with that industrial drum machine sound too, if that's your thing.
walk among us?
you definately need some Misfits in your collection.
are both seminal.
Yes. None more pissed off
Youth of Today
Husker Du - Land Speed Record and Zen Arcade
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables
Wipers (proto hardcore but needed anyway)- Youth of America (but get the three disc boxset if you can)
Circle Jerks - Sex Party
Fang - Landshark
Anything by Saccharine Trust and Necros
Double Nickels on the dime - Minutemen
I like the more offbeat hardcore stuff, so I'd also say Flipper - Generic, some stuff by Scream and Nation of Ulysses.
And get the Flex Your Head Dischord compilation.
Fresh Fruit... on cd and I found In God We Trust LP in Fopp.
Do you know Church Police? I reckon you'd like them
tah for the heads up
check out Youth Of Today & Gorilla Biscuits - both great.
...Through the Fall Out Boy cover on Tony Hawk's American Wasteland.
Youth Of Today are mentioned in that Hold Steady song, along with 7 Seconds, I think?
ruins a classic hardcore song. Gorilla Biscuits only have a 7" (which is a complete classic) and one LP (also great) so its worth checking them out. Youth of Today are good too, one of the best SxE hardcore bands ever.
More Black Flag and Bad Brains
also check out what everyone else has said
but (the) Dicks are worth checking out. They have some great songs.
Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
Negative Approach discography is good as well. Oh and move onto shit like the Butthole Surfers as well.
I love you roomie
i thought i would be the one to get to say Void
but remind me of a lot of stuff that came out at that time: Nation of Ulysses. They're ace. Get 13 Point Plan...
second Germs and Jesus Lizard suggestions.
As with Teen Idles its good early hardcore, and definitely worth a listen, but not as good as the next bands (Black Flag and Minor Threat)
wasn't the metallica bass player in them?
hes been in quite a few bands
they remind me of old style punk, but hardcore aspects too.
Gang Green are good as well.
in the same sort of vein as DOA, old style punk but bits of hardcore too
I reckon this is def worth a look, the sheer amount of music on it makes it almost essential. Also, i'll give yet another reccomendation for Descendents - MGTC.
