Wrong wrong wrong...
"how can you say something's wrong?"
" yes, it's all opinion"
"no YOU'RE WRONG"
"TVOTR are overrated shite"
"^isn't a 'true' music fan'"
"next you'll say you prefer Ire Works to Calculating Infinity"
"yeah man, how dare your opinion differ from anyone else's"
ha ha, made me laugh!
i didnt go on it lastnight i dont think
Two secs and i'll scuttle off to find this gift you have bestowed upon me
I always thought this diagram did a similarly amazing thing:
Man has different opinion SHOCKER
but i like matt james, he write good, he write real good and this is a decent review.
the work of an enquiring mind
i'd be more inclined to believe that than some of the "OMGS BEST ALBUM EVER" critical explorations we saw in the leak thread. This guy seems to have thought about it at least
to say "Maybe it's because the music so often sounds like seven different bands all playing in the same room simultaneously. This can sound incredibly alive but equally sometimes muddled and annoying" as a criticism of a band as pop orientated as TVOTR shows some form of retardation
but channeled into awesome songs. Like...despite hearing Pixies/MBV/Prince/Motown/Barbershop/Jazz in one song, it still sounds nothing like any of that.
Next question...will TV On The Radio end up better than Radiohead?
RTCM sometimes suffered from there being too much going on at any one point, leaving things a bit muddled and cramped. If stripped back a little bit it might have been more effective. But it's also a symptom of Sitek's production style as well - cramming in as much as possible to leave a powerful, bombastic sound which can be a bit too much. He isn't my favourite producer really
I haven't heard the record yet, but some of the criticisms do seem like they could be grounded in reality - the one song i did listen to seemed fairly nondescript and meandering. I'll still buy it though, because they're one of the few "mainstream" bands which interest me
make it sound like its a jam band freakout, whereas its very very interestingly textured pop music
But in all seriousness it is a great album by a great band.
I really do think it will be a contender for album of the year.
Just not of all time.
