where did it go so wrong :(
I kinda liked Unintended and the odd track from that time. But they always seemed to have good ideas that they could never really pull off into anything really good.
but showbiz IS a really good album, whereas the last one is megaPANTS!
of thiers, just the odd single.
Sunburn was alright too. there was another one I can't rember now.
so i've collected the songs i like (mainly the singles) into one playlist and ditched the rest.
cuz if Radiohead hadn't been such a cult success they wouldn't have gotten any shit for it.
Muse have always had (and still have) a darker, RAWKier edge anyway.
this was my favourite album
then matt ballamy decided he was the guitar messiah of england and went all a bit floyd.
didn't like origin of symmetry one bit
but showbiz is really great, it's just a album of fun rock songs with very little we want this mood, we want that mood etc
Solid 7/10. If it was for Fillip and a few others it could even be a 9/10.
I still think Muse have it in them to make one of the best albums of all time, Bellamy just seems more interested in either being a mega-guitar god or making plodding Radio 1 friendly singles.
but they need to be a lot more organic again, like track 8 from OoS whatever it was called, but loads better.
a solid effort but not entirely consistent.
though i do like all three of those albums, still, the last one is megaPANTS!!"WQ"!
In what way?
granted it does set a very good mood over the length of the hour, but there are too many rakmananov (sp?) rips and things
and yet still manages to be really catchy for the most part. I still maintain that Muse being as huge as they are, playing the type of music that they do, is nothing short of a miracle.
and the heavy moments are just rehashings of older songs.
sounded like nothing else at the time and was truly exciting. The rest is brilliant, if only because when you got to their live show they wer eheavy as fuck compared to the album.
Of course OOS seriously topped it but for a while it was the dogs. Still listen to it now.
but the rest just contain a smattering of songs with the same amount of energy and riffage with a heavy helping of pompous shit taking over.
They've evolved and kept things interesting like all the great bands. I think 'Black Holes' is every bit as good as 'Showbiz', which is itself a massively underrated album. Their only slightly disappointing album was 'Absolution' but even that was half brilliant.
Songs like 'Muscle Museum' 'Uno' and 'Showbiz' are some of the best work they've ever produced.
Origin Of Symmetry might be their finest moment, but this album had some great moments, I would still listen to this from time to time.
