on which (if any) Steely Dan record did becker and fagan find their superlative jazz fusion groove?
becker work on nightfly?
hes on kamakiriad though i think
but don't hold me to it
if "my rival" wasn't on gaucho i'd say gaucho is better. totally think countdown to ecstasy is great too though. but its aja really dogg
its the only dan think i ain't heard, is it worth trackin down? i love love love the nightfly so i wanna know if any other steely heads have heard it
musnt be a big enough steely head as i've not come accross it. agree on nightfly tho - bought it on vinyl a few years ago. brilliant
not heard it myself though
Becker just released a new album as well, apparently very influenced by reggae
i've heard becker's 11 tracks of whack which despite the general air of heavily chorused guitars and the lack of fagen sneer is actually pretty aight
might check it out at some point
Not heard that one, or the stuff they did this decade (Two Against Nature and Everything Must Go).
Hard to pick a favourite lp. My Old School is on Countdown to Ecstacy, so it almost has to be that one by default.
in my opinion, is ace. full of mind blowing guitar work from denny dias. nice groove to the whole album. favourite track = dont take me alive
bit more "raw" and guitar-y than like katy lied or pretzel, more in the countdown spirit, has lol reggae pastiche par excellence "haitian divorce" on it, as well as "the fez" which is about condoms
will have to get hold of it. I have Kid Charlemagne, good tune.
Can't Buy A Thrill's got to be a contender for best debut album ever, so many 10/10 tunes on it.
Probably my second favourite Dan album.
every time i hear him say "sign in STRANGUH"
pre-reunion albums are great except for Can't Buy a Thrill which has got some jank on it. My favourites are Aja, Gaucho and Katy Lied. Kamakiriad is ok but the production is a bit cold.
