atp 2009 wishlist.
i hope this is ok, but im just wondering who could curate.
so i was thinking who id really like to curate or just play;
air, cocorosie, the good life, the shins, sufjan stevens, neutral milk/olivia tremor control (i wish)
any chance hahah?

three 6 mafia
Slayer
Harvey Milk
I would be ecstatic
if any of the three above bands played (especially Three 6 Mafia)
i heard
they were busy.
kevin drew and brendan canning.
then they'd get the rest of arts and crafts to come along.
sorted.
phwoar
to brendan canning
Malkmus
with a legendary Pavement reformation encore!
yes
please
He's already done it
We asked KD if BSS would curate next year
And he said "No way man!"
booo
choiceschoices
probably never going to happen choice - bjork/sugarcubes reformation, murakami.
more realistic curators - broken social scene, labrador records, sufjan, nic harcourt, flaming lips.
Flaming Lips
woudl be alot of fun.
i can imagine
coyne getting well into it, especially given that he'll be able to control atp tv too.
yeah
he is a mad man and would do all sorts of crazy stuff with it.
no doubt play his film too which is finaly finished.
coming
out on dvd in october apparently. he's said he wants to tour it, but with snow machines and stuff like that to go with the conventional screening. should be madness - hope they bring it over here too. atp as uk debut?
that would be amazing
I love that band they are so much fun
the more I think about this
the more amazing I feel it could be
as much as i genuinely love the idea of murakami curating
i know he would probably just pick a lot of jazz.
surely
he wouldn't just go jazz. although this would of course mean him maybe showing up in public...
this:
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/145168-elephant-6-crew-to-embark-on-holiday-surprise-tour
makes me wonder if an Elephant 6 one might actually happen..
Deerhunter / Atlas Sound
to curate would be cool.
Aphx Twin would be amazing.
Outkast would be ace but that is very very unlikly...
oh shit
i think they should just make bradford play every song he's ever written.
over the course of the three days.
and knowing him, he'd be able to write an album about it afterward.
haha
yeah that would be brilliant
I dont know
but I think they should introduce a once a band has played ATP they never play again policy, the line ups are too samey, as much as I hate mike patton I think he is a good choice offering something differet
I agree with this
They must have meetings where they go, "ah we can't have deerhoof/mogwai/shellac" play again, they're there nearly every year!
thurston moore should be given a restraining order
and not be allowed within 500m of an atp site
Nah
I'm pissed I missed his ATP.
Thurstons
ATP was easily the best one I have been to and one of the best weekends of my life.
^ this
Elephant Six curating would be cool
or Magnetic Fields.
are there more than 4 good e6 bands?
neutral milk hotel
olivia tremor control
of montreal
elf power
beulah
apples in stereo
the essex green
theyre all pretty great
Not all active, though.
There hasn't been an electronic ATP since Autechre...
so howabout Underground Resistance, Carl Craig or Juan Atkins?
Obviously it wouldn't just be elctronic stuff, just plenty of different kinds of music. That would be lovely.
UR
deffinatly they are legends all of um
really wish I'd been to ae's one
I think Squarepusher would come up with a decent lineup along the jazz/electronic sort of line.
Who I'd most like to see curate:
E Anticon
SOMA
and Autechre. oh, hang on. bollocks.
Soma
would do a good job.
Hyperdub would be amazing at it if you ask me.
Warp
would also bring ome guitars to keep the indie kids happy as they are the biggest fans of ATP.
SOMA
Rather than Soma.
ooo
is there another one with capitals?
what do they do
Stephen O'Malley
ahh right
hes the dude from Sun 0))) yeah...
NBC material surely?
Bloc weekend's got that angle covered.
Didn't UR play there this year?
I reckon James 'DFA' Murphy would be a good choice.
i want ASMZ to curate
and while they are ther have godspeed... reform for it! :)
they could probably fill the entire weekend
with godspeed offshoots, it would be great, best suggestion yet
It would be really really boring though
not as boring as thurston moore or ian mackaye
^100% wrong^
nah
Everything would sound exactly the same
Ian Mckaye would bring Calvin Johnson, maybe some stuff like PiL, the evens, antelope and faraquet, probably a rollins solo spoken word set etc etc
And with his clout he'd be able to pull some pretty special acts in.
I keep thinkin people are sayin
Calvin Harris when I read Calvin Johnson
there is a great deal of variation in all those constellation bands
many I havent seen, and loads I havent hear, I think it would be great.
Calvin johnson would be a good choice
yeah he probably would
I dunno though, he could end up bringing far too much lo fi stuff for my tastes. If he brought some punk stuff as well, I'd be content.
go look up the lineup
for the International Pop Underground.
as long as he brought phil elvrum alon (whic he would)
i'd be happy, although it would break my they shouldnt play twice rule. Johnson curated the international pop underground convention in 1991 that looked pretty great
PiL
wut?
Mckaye is a massive PiL fan
though I suppose he kinda hates John Lydon now...
have you read Our Band Could Be Your Life?
just about every band in it has a story about PiL/John Lydon being a total and utter cunt.
plus, can you imagine how much that would cost???
yeah that's why I demurred
I want to see PiL though :(
Much as I wish I'd been around to see them
I think in the unlikely event there's a PiL reformation, it would just be depressingly shit.
Ian Mckaye thanks
It'd be great. He'd bring some hardcore, some jittery dance punk and lots of k records style stuff for all you lot.
After hearing Rollins talk about how much he and Ian Mackaye were into Ted Nugent
I find myself wondering how much it'd cost to bring The Nuge to Butlins. He could curate a barbecue on the Sunday afternoon.
Hmmm
Hundred Reasons
Hell Is For Heroes
Rival Schools
Amen
Limp Bizkit
Slipknot
Vex Red
ATP vs 2002
Wow...
I could like fire bomb the place and make the world a much better place.
pish posh
This is very true!!!
An electronica event would be cool again. ATP vs the DIS Board lol. Boredoms one I'd love to see :) set up all the drummers for the weekend around the place and get them all to start playing at the same time, that'd be a sight to behold.
+1
that would be awesome. You'd have to have two curators though as boredoms have the tendency to straddle the wrong side of pretentious at times and three days of that would be a bit much. But still awesome idea.
Boredoms and Zorn,
possibly?
yeah
that would be great, especially if the bands on Tzadik are any judge on his musical taste.
guided by voices
reformation please
Vs fans mk 2
I want to vote.
5ive
Nick Cave?
already done one
James Murphy
would put on a good show...
no he hasnt
He's doing one in January though isn't he?
eh?
wasn't that Dirty Three?
yes
it was.
^
Nick Cave
is doing the aussie one that got mentioned here this morning.

is "apparently" doing an aussie based atp in january
Wow
Grinderman
Dirty 3
Nick Cave and the BS
Some Nick Cave spoken word stuff
You'd barely need anyone else
i also love that nick cave song :)
Sub Pop please
that would be another great one
their 20th birthday thing looked amazing
yeah sub pop
would be awesome, with a reformed soundgarden and sleater kinney.
BUT NO IRON & WINE PLS THX
Hyperdub Hyperdub Hyperdub
I will sa it again if I have too!
Kode 9
Burial
Darkstar
Zomby
Ikonika
LV
LD
Spaceape
Samiyam
Flying Lotus
Quarta 330
The Bug
King Midus Sound
thats just people he has released. he could choose some ace bands and all sorts no doubt Kode 9 is a legend.
The Residents
would be another 1, if they don't get announced for the 1 this december I will be very annoyed; I'm havin to miss seeing them in london to go atp.
Thats the pretentious...
band I've tried so hard to get into but alas detest whose name I couldn't recall yesterday!
I've only heard Third reich & roll & Commercial album, but still...
Neurosis
might have some interesting choices, given the range of stuff on Neurot.
I wish
trail of dead had done one but perhaps it would be quite similar to EITS one. I'd like to see them work on a line-up that was radically different based on what EITS did and their network of really quite good bands like forget cassettes, windsor for the derby, a roman scandal, attack formation, dresden dolls, sound team etc.
Kraftwerk ATP
now that could be brilliant!
Michel Gondry
curating
oh
hell yes : )
interesting
very very interesting
that would be awesome
and might mean Bjork would do in. I'm in favour :D
The Shins have already curated, you doy
I'd quite like Robert Pollard and Tobin Sprout to curate.
On another note
why the fuck were EITS ever asked to do it?
who knows
they did a decent job though, shame about that venue. I dont think i'll ever got back.
<3 camber forever.
*
go back
I actually prefer the Minehead site
(hides from purist wrath)
shellac vs thurston moore
wait what
i wish they'd get some good bands.
...
As suggsted James Murphy/Tim Goldsworthy would be superb. DFA have shaped much of the zeitgeist for sometime and it'd be ace if they curated ATP.
DFA
would be an excellent choice, Murphy would take choosing the bands really seriously I'm sure. Other people I'd like to see have a go:
The RZA
Madlib
Gilles Peterson
Soul Jazz
Warp and UR are good shouts too.
tv on the radio
it's about the right time, i bet.
The Knife's wiki page
said they went on a 3 year hiatus in 2006. Which would mean they should do something next year.
But this should wait until 2011 when I can do my first ATP :)
hefner
:P
HEFNER
!!!!
Michael Gondry could be ace too.
DAVID LYNCH?!?!?!?!?!?!
Upset The Rhythm
Rhys Chatham
Surely 2009 is the year of the Pavement reunion?
greg ginn ft several cats
I reckon Greg Ginn or Rollins could do the next nightmare
cats would be an added bonus.
No, it has to be David Lynch doing the next nightmare.
I hope I've made myself clear.
*liam
how bout
Ginn vs Rollins??!! Controversial!
a steve albini one would be cool
he listens to a wide variety of stuff.
and has worked with lot's of great bands and artists
and could possibly mean big black reformation or maybe a reformation of similar bands (jesus lizard, scratch acid, rapeman etc)
he already did one
I would like a Will Oldham one with some weird outsider american folk acts
well, shellac have
sonic youth have done one collectively, and thurston moore has done his own
MF DOOM
M83
If only for the fact that Cyann & Ben would probably play. Can't believe i still haven't seen them yet.
flaming lips would be par-tay central
ian mackaye or conor oberst might do something fun (but more greyy, greeny, brown than wayne & the gang)
o HAI
I'd say Bttf.
the cast
of back to the future?
with Mcfly headlining
dont look back
lemon incest?
My 85th request for a Sub Pop one, cheers.
Sub Pop
yes!!!! that would be kool.
David Lynch
or someone else that isn't a band / musicain please - something like the Gallo weekend again. That slayed.
This would be amazing
Interestingly Dacasia club have a David Lynch festival at 93 feet east in november. Not exactly sure what this will entail but sounds interesting. Also Eraserhead is being shown at the ICA from the 12th september!
Boredoms
Upset the Rhythm or Sub Pop would be good too
David Lynch vs The Boredoms
live soundtrack to Erasherhead or something
wait what
Anticon v Constellation
that would be boner city
Whoever said Micheal Gondry curating
^^^
Everytime I see neutral milk hotel reunion written down it makes me think its going to happen. GARHGH. What was the problem with last years venue?
Belle & Sebastian
as it will be 10 years since Bowlie next year, and they're more than overdue a comeback. Add in some sort of premier/showing of the movie Stuart is doing (if it's finished) all the members have eclectic enough tastes to pick a variety of bands and you're already looking at the best weekend of the year.
Although, Flaming Lips and Subpop would be fantastic as well
I like the suggestions that someone outside of the musical world should do one...
...Matt Groening (sp?) did one stateside didn't he, and from what I recall that bill was pretty good - Sonic Youth, Stooges, Shins, Elliott Smith.
Michel Gondry, given his connections via music videos, is a great shout. I'd totes go for White Stripes main stage at an ATP...! Maybe even (okay, so here's where any budget is destroyed) mix it up and ask Spike Jonze to co-curate, thus inviting the Beasties and Bjork into the fold...
If someone could invest a few million quid into the ATP cause, that'd be great, thanks!
I don't think Elliott Smith got round to playing though...
no he died a month
or so before i think.
(ooops)
He's on the comp thought, right?
(It's not like I went.)
*though
obvs
Yar.
Think he was down to play, though.
Boards of Canada
Please....
Retribution Gospel Choir (or Low)
Fuck Buttons
Gravenhurst
Ulrich Schnauss
Sufjan Stevens
The Notwist
(actually - how about an ATP of side projects...although we can debate the meaning of the term)
Retribution Gospel Choir (Low)
Calexico (Giant Sand)
13+God (The Notwist)
Hawk and a Hacksaw (Neutral Milk Hotel)
Tom Tom Club (Talking Heads)
Woven Hand (16 Horsepower)
Punch Brothers (Nickel Creek)
And how could I forget
Grinderman?
Do we know when next years are being announced yet, by the way?
usually
january time, no?
this years
were announced in October I recall
Summers told me it'd be "soon"
damn that enigmatic man of mystery. someone should take him down a peg.
give us a month or so
right now is uberbusy
you can have your peg back
Do you have any s(w)ay?
haha
i wish.
Someone 'non musicy'???
A Chris Morris ATP?
A 3 day Blue Jam experience??
Now that's the stuff of a madman's dream!
oh god
I would go to that it would be some scary shit
^^^ chris morris!
then again, instead of doing subpop (who have vested interests) howabout getting peter bagge, author of the legendary Hate comic?
Then again, a subpop wishlist might contain the postal service...
flaming lips
would be great I reckon. EITS tried to get Neutral Milk Hotel this year. Would be great but no chance I don't reckon. In a way the curators don't matter that much. I think EITS are fairly dull and shite (backed up by their ATP performance also) but had the best time ever. Lineup was great. Will Oldham could be good but in a way I can't see him doing it.
Chavez reunion?
Bronski Beat? Soft Cell?
GBV would be amazing also...
Maybe someone German. The lippoks or whatever. More decent techno type people maybe. Oooh I dunno.
Constellation. meh
I'd quite like David Shrigley to curate
i bet he'd pick some choice stuff, and also some fun things too.
playingwise? Mountain Goats and Bjork please. thank you.
how about a
PJ Harvey curated one !
It's Breeders and ATP v The Fans
Check out http://www.lastminute.com/site/entertainment/music/event-product.html?eventID=707741423-1&catID=25&intcmp=lmn_music_just_released
Minehead for both?
Booooooooooooo!
yeah but
DEVO!!!
Fuck no
ATP versus the fans is boundf to be quality. You can count me in wherever it is.
Any idea what the actual dates are?
Because these sites say different things:
http://www.lastminute.com/site/entertainment/music/event-product.html?eventID=707741423-1&catID=25&intcmp=lmn_music_just_released
and:
http://www.gigantic.com/g~email~g/gigantic/home_all_tomorrows_parties.html
Yours,
Confused.
They say the same things
No they don't
Yes. they do.
8-10 May and 15-17 May
LM says
Breeders 8-10/5, Fans 15-17/5, and Gigantic says Fans 8-10/5 and Breeders 15-17/5. At least they do on my browser, flapjack.
WHICH ARE THE SAME THING!!
The same weekends
but the curators in a different order. THAT'S what I was pointing out, so for misleading you. Anyway after further research I have concluded that Last Minute is correct.
I'm glad we cleared that up.
^^^
Boo x a million
