most forward looking album in years then?(Quote from NME editor)
Late Of The Pier are a bit good.....
listen to the LOTP album. its really bloody good. i guess you haven't. name me 1 other album this year that crams that many ideas into one album whilst still being all good tunes?!
there are a load of albums that "cram that many ideas into one album whilst still being all good tunes", firstly because there isn't really THAT many ideas on the LOTP record, and because there are lots of very creative, good records that have come out this year. that said, it is a good record, and i enjoy it a lot. i just think its overselling it to imply its the most creative album to come out all year when its just a slightly quirky mainstream pop record
eblow or something!!!
dont say of bloody montreal
and yeah, of montreal is hugely more creative. if you want to talk about sheer volume of ideas whilst remaining catchy, of montreal destroys lotp. at the end of the day, the record only sounds diverse because its a hodgepodge of 70s and 80s pop groups put through 21st century production (ie; erol). i don't think that equals creativity. but again, don't get me wrong i like the album, but its not groundbreaking
because that would clearly be true?
Realised i'd heard them before. 'Space & The Woods' is a complete Gary Numan pastiche with a horrible 'dancey' bit thrown in for good measure. ouch
I'd say there are about 6/7 good songs on their album. Klaxons.. er.. I wouldn't really want to listen to any of it these days to be honest.
haha, everyone on here used to bum them. (Klaxons that is)
I dont like late of the pier, just another 'electro' band, nothing really new about them.
what im trying to say is it just goes through the same cycles here. A year or two? ago and everyone was saying similar things about the klaxons being new and original.
the fact that I probably won't be interested in LOTP in two years. They're just a bit of harmless bit of 'now' synth pop. I'm not too cool for school to listen to them..
Late of the pier are great fun, though they do rip gary numan quite outrageously [as aforesaid].
I think one of the main differences is that - at least i'm pretty sure that - Klaxons set out to take the piss a bit...
Not once have i thought that they were ever being serious or trying too hard, just having a laugh and creating 'hits' whilst doing it ...
Fortunately everybody loved what they produced..
..what are they up to nowadays anyway?
with their tin helmets and rave lasers, Cursing Erol Alkan
no tin helmets though.
It'll be quite interesting to see what the next klaxons album will be like. I think theyll need to have quite a drastic change. Something a bit heavier/meaner would be good.
I can really see them saying that they can't be arsed.
LOTP are alright I guess I'm not that fussed about them I might listen to my sisters copy sometime.
I just don't get it.
in both bands, 'nu rave' image (triangles, funny shapes - check out the bathroom gurgle video), similar use of falsetto (gravitys rainbow/bathroom gurgle) they're not that different..
i just don't get it.
Just seem like a really bad 70s 80s rip off band.
Also something I inherently dislike about posh little kids making 'cool' music.
