Bloc Party review in NME
I bought NME this week (shoot me) and found it hard to believe Intimacy got 7/10 after one of the most gushing and sycophantic reviews I've ever read.
Anyone else find this a bit strange? Not that I expect any of you achingly trendy folk to have bought NME...
whats the nme
what did it deserve?
i think 7 is fair, it's a solid, much more interesting that weekend in the city album, it's never going to be great, but they are making a possitive move into something mildly different. it's almost chikinki esque at times, but obviously, lots better.
chikniki esque
is now my favourite description. Genius
* chikinki
damn my fat fingers
kenicke-esque?
I think 7 is probably fair
but it was just that the review was so generous with its praise that it seemed like it was going to be a 9 or 10...
...
I was surprised after reading the review that it then got 7. It was pretty fawning TBH.
i see
i did really enjoy my first listen, but i'd imagine it won't be a laster, so i think they might be taking that into account. the flourishes af greatness aren't enough to make you grin more than a few times.
It probably got a 7 because
the NME editorial team decide what the marks are. The reviewer submits the review and the mark, but the mark can change if, say, there's too many eights or nines in the mag.
Probably just got marked down by the editor or whatever...
Or maybe the reviewer thought that, having been so gushing, he'd balance the gush with a 7. Dunno...
nice one
maybe all the fan boys will go over to the NME and abuse everyone there now instead hhehe
7 is very fair indeed in my eyes anyway.
what do people think of the pitchfork review?

I think it's more or less spot on. I do like Halo, though.
Yeah
I agree with it too. I posted it the other day along with lots of bloc party puns...
I was bored
I think I agree with both this review and the DiS review I'm inbetween some place but only just.
The Pitchfork seems a bit harsh
I think 7 is fair, it's a much better record than AWITC but possibly overstretches itself occasionally. I've listened to it at least a couple of times each day since it's release and it's not many albums that can hold my attention to that degree.
Also, even if they do fall on their faces every now and then, it's always good to hear a band stretching themselves rather than just keep churning out a 'winning formula' to the point of diminishing returns.
true very true
I reckon Bloc Party will one day managed to realise and exicute all their ideas. But they need to work on it quite a bit hehehe
7 is fair indeed 6.whatever aint that diffrent really.
I cant decide if its better than AWITC yet I'm going to put them on par untill I get the CD and spun it loads more...
Well if I get that far...
