B(ol)loc(ks) Party, right kids?
They're just trying too hard
Sometimes I agree with this, they're too earnest at times. I still think Intimacy is quality though, and despite the pretentious lyrics to some of their material, they remain a favourite of mine.
They're the epitomy of 'taking one's self too seriously'.
and all the hyperbolic lil fanboys coming out of the wood work.
Music for background noise in an indie disco at 9 o clock.
a) it sounds like a kele solo effort
b) the production is hideously LOUD
c) since when was a dose of coherency a bad thing?
they are valid points and an opinion on the music who cares if he likes Editors...
...who do suck btw heheh
thats maybe why I like Signs.
I dont think many peeps are callin Bloc Party original apart from avant NME readers and the like...
the chemical brothers should sue or something.
i've never heard a rip off as obvious as that.
who is the better singer?
Nole Gallegar or Kele (whats his second name?)
he just yelps a lot.
but any vocal sound is prrty much singin if its in a song I was tryin to be kind...
he aint as bad on this new un. the 2nd album made me cringe at times with his vocal style.
Its Setting Sun right?
Just checking as my recollection of Chemical Brothers tunes is a tad rusty.
Setting Sun the one with the Oasis dude singin on it.
the drums are esspecialy samey
'setting sun' was a massive rip-off (i'm sure all concerned wd say 'homage') of 'tomorrow never knows'...
I love this track its a beauty.
I don't think anyone is sayin chemical brothers are the most original people ever either, they just make bangers!
A rip ff is alright if its done well pretty much hehe
why do Bloc Party cause so much discussion? Silent Alarm is as good as countless bands debut albums who never did anything else. Most people here sound like they'd of preferred it if they hadn't; bringing up Editors was interesting cos surely they could release an album without minute-by-minute updates on whether it's the best album ever or a load of ROFL (?) ... I have no intention of giving the new album a listen - not one comment on this whole board has made it sound attractive, and that's including the people who liked it. Is it just a band that everyone thinks they have an opinion on, regardless of it's worth?
they got a hell of alot of love for the first album and gained alot of fans esspeicaly young passionate ones.
The second one disapointed lots of people and some others it didnt. So peeps are interested in what they are gona do next.
They are one of the biggest bands in the country aint they thats why they get alot of disscussion.
I'd be surprised if they made top 50 overall sales, and don't forget a fair amount bought 3 versions of the first album at least, and two of the second. I agree that a lot of people like 'em, but a lot of people like them Scouting fellas and I was really asking what set them apart from the pack - I mean, there was a Decemberists thread with maybe 20 responses today! Various Bloc Party threads have totalled 400!
but apparently not as mental as when In Rainbows came out...
just kinda popular in indie turms then I guess. Some people like to go and stir stuff up and others just wana join in to somat big I guess.
MORE coherent as I get drunker - it just drags out the rows. Sorry, carry on :-(
particularly compared to a band like the decemberists.
i know you used them as an example but still.
and trust me, musically, lyrically, and generally, the decemberists are (in my opinion) the better group.
but, they're not a band that a publication like nme is going to laud over.
personally, i'm passionate not because bloc party are an amazing band, or because silent alarm was particularly great.
but that album found me when i was 15 and turned me onto a lot of other music, so while it may not be the most amazing thing musically, it meant a lot to people.
and i just think it's a shame they've gone to shit.
Bloc Party were a gateway band for this generation? That would explain why I feel so fucking left out :-(
go get it fast go go...
naive to say there 'bad', cos there just not, fair enough if it's not your taste, but there not a bad band. And the new album is good :) Maybe to many layers, they need to simplify things more.
that the band has changed that people are ased about its the fact that the music just isn't as good.
A hell of alot of people on here have a massive diverse taste in music and have very open minds about bands changing direction.
Bloc Party don't sound new they are recyceling ideas many many people have used before them, in some places they pull it off in oters not so much.
bloody fan boys comin out again hey...
This really isn't the right place for the 'you just want Silent Alarm again' argument.
Although if Bloc Party did turn around tomorrow and make the world's best hip hop album I'm not sure how well it'd be received. At first, at least.
Luckily, that seems a distant prospect.
as I think Silent Alarm was an incredible record full of hits that deserved to sell as well as it did.
Since then it's merely become the Kele ego show and they don't even use their drummer, obviously the most talented part of the band as much anymore. Now the lyrics are becoming more cringeworthy, the music is becoming boring and they are depressingly disappointing.
There are some flashes of the first album here on a few of the tracks but mostly it is a little... well, too... forced? There are some really nice tracks, Halo and Biko good examples of that they are still good, but having listened to it a few times last night whilst playing Sim City3000 it struck how concise it is. I really like that in albums. No need to drone on and on.
I think I will grow to like it but the fact that the zeitgeist that the band rode in on with Silent Alarm has well and truly burst (cliche colliding, sorry) and this album is trying to move on but almost but not quite getting there is telling.
I quite like the new one after a first knee-jerk listen.
Is this some kind of reverse jag? If you go on about them enough and negatively enough people might get the album just to see what the hell has got you so worked up.
I aint worked up about it, I'm just talkin about music like I always do. Its the damn kids takin it all the wrong way, do you lot acctualy read what I have said it aint even that negative...
Not even really having a dig, just amazed you can get so worked up in a negative way. If someone came on here and said, i dunno, Los Campesinos! new album is fantastic, having heard the album I'd point out it's twee indie rubbish. After that though, really how many ways do you want to hear me say that?
Let it be mate.
I abuse bands all the time on here and don't even get a second look but as soon as its tuns of kids and pretentious bloc party fans thinkin its the best thing ever. I get singled out, I didn't even start this thread and there are loadsa people abusing them in here...
nowt worng with talkin to people about the music, its not like i was judging anyone for liking them. Hell I even like then some what...
jimi's saying the same thing over and over, he's just making intelligent points about the band which is what a discussion forum is all about. he's said both positive and negative things
Fuck sake. Of all the things to stigmatise someone about here, actually talking about music is surely the least.
Sometimes its possible to have a conversation. Last thing we want is for that to be A Bad Thing. Well, last thing I want, anyway.
now I'm gona up load a minimal techno mix in another thread hhehe
Bloc Party are in the top 10 listed bands on profiles in the London network on Facebook. Slight distortion as many put "!!~~##R'n'B~~~~!! tuNeZX! wOOp !!" in their space.
"Ares" is a clear winner for the worst song I've heard this year.
they've ever done. absolutely awful.
