Seems to be dead according to some sources. I can't see it as it is blocked on this machine.
Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA.
Hardly a surprise, surely?
handed out by Dredd
it was only a matter of time, really.
'Timmy, you're not allowed to cry, you knew the cat had poor kidneys'
That's a shame.
They did link to a site where you could buy the mp3 if it was available, so what's the RIAA's problem?
uh that they were facillitating the illegal sharing of music? maybe?
but yeah, I think streaming music is subject to a royalty fee, as last.fm pays the labels and artists when their music is streamed, similar to a radio station. But if there was a way to download the files, say using file2hd, then that would be another reason to shut it down.
You could download mp3s from muxtape. I used to do it a lot. Basically the mp3s we're downloaded automatically into your browser's cache.
I'd assumed they'd applied a more last.fm-type system to the streaming, though that still wouldn't have got 'em out of the royalties side of it... But you can't have a user-driven model like that - leaked stuff could be uploaded and mistagged, etc.. Problem is that people making a playlist using last.fm could do a similar thing (IF the track is available on last.fm) and the companies get their monies, hopefully. So why tolerate Muxtupe? God I should be a business dragon, with a ruthless mind like that :-(
illeagaly now then please!
I'll get me decks out and make a Nirvana mega mix...
