I love MBV, but they're just a heritage act now.
He really is a bitter, bitter cunt isn't he?
He's right about the Mogwai record though, tis a good un.
then why did he let them get away with so much?
"easily pleased UK press"
not so easily pleased that they would give the latest dirty pretty things a decent review... or anything of the shite he released on poptones.
They keep printing all his op eds and statements as if they have any worth, after all.
knows that in the same way that he made his name with Oasis and the JAMC, he will also always be associated with MBV.
But what really irks him is that no one gives a shit about him these days.
1. McGee comes from the punk, Malcom Mclaren school of wind-up. He will say anything pretty much, to grab attention, wind people up and attempt to place focus on his own groups (in this case mogwai who he manages).
2. McGee doesn't write his own blogs.
I doubt very much if Alan really thinks of MBV as a joke signing and I also doubt that he is actually at all bitter. This all just makes for good copy.
i'd understand if it was an actual article about something, but that blog probably took about 5 minutes to write.
At the end of the day, MBV bankrupted his company. Anyone in the same position in whatever walk of life would hold similar feelings.
...he doesnt hire someone to write each blog individually. But his press write his blogs, he just bleets something down the phone to them. Sometimes they're lengthy affairs, sometimes they are just a few throwaway STATEMENTS IN SHOUTY CAPITAL LETTERS.
the spending rumours of MBV are massively exaggerated, it creates a good story. Like Tony Wilson said if you've got the choice between the truth and the myth go for the myth everytime.
MBV are a great fucking band. 2 albums of greatness is worth much more than a career spent striving.
Mogwai are a really good band, but they're not on the same page as MBV.
Do people still listen to shit Alan McGee says? I thought he'd been hung for bringing us the world's shittiest bands many years ago...
but he gave me The Boo Radleys, Teenage Fanclub, Primal Scream and 3 Colours Red. So he can bang on as much as he likes and I guess I still owe him something.
before their gig at the roundhouse watching Graham Coxon when I went.
He just loves to wind people up. Suprised he didn't mention fucking Glasvegas in that blog as that is his current publicity project.
doesnt he manage them?!
MBV live is spot on from what I've read in reviews, all that's really been mentioned is the fact they were loud. In my book if that's all you can say about a band's performance then the gig was shit.
I also hate Mogwai though, and think McGee is indeed a bitter twat.
you think its spot on 'from what you've read in reviews'? Are you completely stupid?
except the last mogwai album was absolute shite, and Loveless, Isn't Anything and the Tremolo, Glider and You Made Me Realise EPs are better than anything mogwai have written.
MySpace is blocked at work!
MY BLOODY VALENTINE NOSTALGIC CABARET TOUR 2008
THE NEW MOGWAI ALBUM THE HAWK IS HOWLING VERSUS THE ''NOSTALGIC CABARET'' OF MBV LIVE IN 2008
Finally got time to listen to it and it's even better than the last two Mogwai albums which to me have both been wonderful.I'm Jim Morrison,I'm Dead/Danphe and the brain/Local Authority/Kings Meadow/Thank you space expert are all beautiful Mogwai music.Their is a beautiful irony that the ''nostalgic cabaret'' that is my bloody valentine are throwing at people in 2008 gets critical acclaim in the easily pleased UK press with MBV still playing the exact same set they did 20 years ago and the only trick Kevin Shields has anymore in 2008 is actual volume and double extra pa to numb you and zero new songs.
Hear the new Mogwai record it's beautiful.Mogwai are 2008 My bloody valentine were a joke signing in 1991 maybe they got better..
