Am i wrong? AM I?
but the river is better than thunder road, especially the live 1975-85 version with the big tearjerking intro
always put me off about 'usa'. don't think it's dated that well. i prefer the acoustic versions he does of the song. i think you're wrong, yes. and seconded on thunder road, bamnan
title track, darlington county, downbound train, no surrender, going down...brilliant.
obvs i love born to run too.
now that's the joint.
Album lowlights. There's too much filler this this on Born in the USA, althought it's great moments; title track, Dancing in the Dark, I'm on Fire, Downbound Train, My Hometown are up there with his best.
are the best Bruce lps.
breakdown onwards in Born To Run is one of the best moments in any music ever.
with broken heroes on a last chance power-drive'
but there's no place left to hide
born to run is way better than born in the usa.
sure, i'm on fire and down bound train are great, as is dancing in the dark, but there is no way it's better then born to run.
have you heard darkness on the edge of town?
i just dont think that some of the tracks on BTR stand up as well. obviously im excluding thunder road, born to run, tenth avenue and jungleland.
and also i really like the unashamed 'we're going to write a stadium rock album that sells billions' ambition of born in the usa.
...but this is how I'd rank his studio albums:
Born To Run > Darkness... > The River > Nebraska > Born In The USA > Tunnel Of Love > Magic > The Wild, The Innocent... > Seeger Sessions > Welcome To Aysbury Park > The Rising > The Ghost of Tom Joad > Devils & Dust > Lucky Town > Human Touch
I don't think anyone can argue about the last two placings...
darkness-nebraska-born to run-tunnel of love-born in the usa-the rising-seeger sessions-the river-ghost-magic-devils- haven't heard the rest
Born to run WINS.
... but IMO Born To Run has aged better. I notice he doesn't seem to do Darlington County much live any more. I guess that stuff about him and his mate trying to pull birds by claiming "our pas each own one of the World Trade Centres" wouldn't really work any more.
so no matter what you pick, you're onto a winner.
the track, i think is well naff now, it hasnt dated well. But that whole album is ace, Cover me, im on fire, downbound train, my hometown, dancing in the dark, are all great. As is Born to run, all of its ace apart from meeting across the river which is skippable...but we should have more Magic love, thats an ace album
apart from Born in the USA the track bit - my entire body turns into an air punch every time i hear it.
Froggy Went A-Courting ?
is where its at for me. Adam Raised A Cain - absolutely amazing
but I like Darkness On The Edge Of Town and Nebraska more than both of them.
"one step up" is a A+ boss tearjerker if i ever did hear one
I <3 this album - Brilliant Disguise and the title track are two of my favourite Springsteen songs
those three tracks are sequenced so closely together its like the weeping section, but that record is so so good
