Just got back from Gutter Twins
Wow. Wow. Wow.
Incredible, incredible gig. Everyone who talks up The Hold Steady as the best bar band ever etc needs to take a look at Greg and Mark. The stuff off the album was blistering loud and it seemed to really groove live. Seven Stories Underground had me shaking my rump, as did Each to Each and Bete Noire. Completely amazing set as well- We got Bonnie Brae, When We Two Parted as well as Methamphetamine Blues and Hit The City. And their version of Live With Me. Pretty sure there was another cover, but it eludes me right now.
Dulli was like the great entertainer, waltzing around, jumping into the crowd- think it pissed Mark off a bit, as he walked off very rapidly after the encore., so maybe that second album won't happen after all...still, amazing amazing gig. When We Two Parted and Front Street almost had me crying, stuck between elation and complete sadness at how mournful they are. And Hit The City and Bete Noire made me grin more than I have all year. Just such simple simple rock and roll but done with so much style and two of the greatest living voices. You're all idiots if you were waiting on a Twilight Singers tour and blew this off, because it was like a Twilight Singers tour with Mark fucking Lanegan involved.
Plus there was the cutest girl ever next to me headbanging away who kept singing along with me. If you're out there, I wish I'd summoned up the guts to talk to you.
I'm still so jittery I can't sleep. I need to lie down.
