Are any of these worth getting? I notice SYR8 has just come out.
It's ok, worth a listen at the very least. I've listened to it once and will probably never listen to it again.
i liked it enough to want to listen to it again. im not sure you can listen to anything once though and make a decision about it.
I just can't see myself wanting to listening to it again. I do struggle with the Sonic Youth improv stuff anyway.
with kim gordon, a japanese dj and a japanese percussiionist is really worth getting in my opinion.
SYR1 - Anagrama, is also worth getting I feel. I have number 5 & 6 as well, but these are both long sprawling improvisations that I've yet to get into.
Where John Cage hammers a nail into every note of a piano? Or is that just silly rumour
they have a track like that but it's a cover of a john cage piece. they played it live a few times as well :D
the 5th one is the kim gordon one - that's good.
the 1st is worth getting.
still deciding on the SYR3 and SYR6, both are very improvisation and I have listened enough. Haven't heard any others.
pretty much makes the most recent one - it's enjoyable but there are plenty other noise/experimental records out there that i get more from...
If you don't have it already. Mats + Thurston + Jim O'Rourke + the bassist from Zu + Paal Nilsson Love (= incredible drummer, plays in The Thing and Scorch Trio). Pretty heavy and better than most of the SYR stuff (haven't heard 8 yet) the second album is due any minute now.
I love the SYR's. number 2 is fairly forgettable (jams for the songs that ended up on 1000 Leaves) and 4 is half good, which is fine because it's a double. 3 and 6 are my favourite so far.
