I'm talking about new/emerging artists not big names like Dizzee etc
Your recommendations would be most appreciated!
like Roots Manuva, Rodney P & London Posse, Skitz (who is now making grime beats). I think alot of the British hiphop scene went down a grime route, I'm really out of the loop though...
from the battle last night
Really ain't my thing. I like G funk ha.
that was an spic rap battle LBC :)
Maybe I should just have a reply to these threads saved somewhere?
In essence UK Hip-Hop is all terrible, derivative, cringe worthy nonsense.
Grime on the other hand is exciting, dynamic, ephemeral grass roots dance music.
Which one are you going to listen to?
Wiley (ok he's not new but he's breaking the market soon on XL)
TEXT (a bit like Battles, Grime, Dubstep, Sole, Anticon)
Jaxor + Red Hot Entertainment.
are Grime aint they, but if those count...
have to as well.
...it's me Jaxor!
(it's Junior Spesh!)
Durrty Goodz is actually hip hop though, innie. I remember reading that he'd Quit Grime to brit-MC it up. Like Sway, technically doesn't consider himself a grime MC.
If Grime though: JME? Flo Dan (not always amazingly lyrically but makes a beat sound good)? No Lay (ain't heard her new album, apparently it's a bit crossover)?
I guess most of those are Run The Roads 1 era though, eh. Hm.
since that ace EP from the other year, so he might be on a hiphop tip now yeah. He is on the new Dusk & Blackdown dubstep album thats out soon if not now too.
Nah. The last few things he's done have been 100% Grime. Axiom EP, Top 3 Selected Remix, features on Devlin's EP and Blackdown's album, the igrime thing with Logan Sama...
Dirty Whirl vol. 1 was Hip-Hop beat but that was before he went to prison. Although there's been rumours his album 'Born Blessed' will feature alot of hip-hop beats alongside grime ones.
Its all about the eyes:
Grimey as fuck.
TEXT, how find him? Anuvva anti-Google type. Label, releases, MySpace?
sounds interesting.....apart from the Anticon bit...
and the whole Leeds scene is pretty good.
is essential. Maybe not new/emerging, but hardly on Dizzee's level either... it's hard to know where you're coming from here. So I'll just recommend a few things anyway.
So, yeah, Braintax - Panorama to start. Then his other albums. And you'll probably want to dig into Lowlife Records a bit...
Dirty Diggers' The Pleasure Is All Mine is a decent record from last year that had a couple of great tracks on (head over to their myspace and listen to Wannabes, for example).
Example is pretty cool; just listen to You Can't Rap (it's on youtube) and you'll know whether to investigate further.
Ummm... get some Herbaliser maybe? And for really new stuff, check out Crossword Records - they've just got a new sampler out, and it genuinely holds up to an Anticon sampler.
Hopefully there's some stuff there that interests you...
He usually has some good UK Hip-Hop on his mixes.

Foreign Beggars are pretty ruff.
big tune that one the Martyn remix is amazing as well. I'm gona get this on the DL!
And there's like 5 UK tracks there.
In fairness, I haven't heard of TEXT, Jaxor and Dot Rotten. All the rest, though, including my suggests, are pretty old names. Like, easy as old as Dizzee. Braintax, Jhest, Asaviour et al. Dirty Diggers. I mean, I know they're not very well known but, they're not fresh out the pan like. Example is probably the newest of the ones I'd heard of I guess.
Not a criticism of the suggestions but I've been wondering a similar thing. Who are the actual new names in urrrban music? Hip hop and grime have too many shithawk MCs with MySpace pages and its really hard to find anything decent. Where do you cut through the hype and lack-of-quality-control in these scenes to find hot new UK artists?
BBC 1 Xtra
There are loads of places.
Just listen in.
a while ago they have a nice FlyLo interview.
I'll be honest with ya, and this may be missing the point but, I was looking for something less entrenched with UK hip hop as a way of life. I mean, I prefer grime these days anyway, but something with a bit of outsider perspective on it all but close enough to the source to catch artists before the 'first album in HMV stage'. Something far back enough to see those wicked little placed where grime and hip hop and dubstep and IDM crossover. Y'know. Some kind of utopia where the trees are made of sherbet.
Anyhoo, I'll give those links a look. Been a while since I browsed UKHH.com et al - don't really have time to listen to the radio.
Cheers! It was a gash question, I know.
I just couldn't figure out whether the original poster knew anything at all about ukhh. So I did a kind of intro, rather than trying to be cutting edge.
That said, I stand by my Crossword Records statement...
lewis parker has been on the scene for over ten years. klashnekoff /terra firma is also wicked, but they've been around for yonks, too.
crossword records are ace, but not out and out hip-hop. obake is hip-hop on it, but he's swiss.
baby j is a really good producer, but been around a little while.
head for the sarah love show on 1xtra, she plays lots of excellent new uk hip-hop.
Mm. That Girlchild track off FTP was bloody beautiful.
Tussle With The Beast is both fairly new and amazing. I like Dubbledge for a bit of humour, he's not been around for too long. Foreign Beggars have a big old lineup which seems to include new people (or lots of feats.) and are def worth a look.
Seriously though, get tussle with the beast. Excellent album.
It's complete crap !!! Listen to something decent instead !!! Next please !!
I will ask again...
are you a joke acount or just a nob?
coming through. People like Griminal and Chipmunk have been grafting for a while but they've only really come into their own over the last year or so.
Both have free mixtapes you can get here:
Ice Kid, P Money & Double S are also ones to check.
