Sorry, I know these threads are annoying. But there is just too much to choose from...
Do not listen to anyone who suggests otherwise.
'The Letting Go' might be a good follow-up, but from there you can pretty much be guaranteed to find quality wherever you choose to dip into his catalogue.
although i wouldnt go near 'The Letting Go' - overall a really irritating and weak album i think.
The Letting Go is a lovely, slightlly odd record. True, Dawn Whatserface's voice is an acquired taste, but it was a quirky diversion on an otherwise fairly steady path for Oldham. Criminally unloved, that record.
Darkness is the place to go.
Viva Last Blues and Ease Down the Road also pretty good bets.
Palace's Hope mini album and Lost Blues & Other Songs vol 1 (Ohio River Boat song is a must)
My personal favourite is Palace Brothers a.k.a. Days in the Wake but I realise that it might not be to everyone's taste.
thank you very much.
is that it's kinda...well...really dark in places! Could put new listeners off.
I'd probably recommend Master & Everyone just to get your toes wet, then I See a Darkness. Then Superwolf. Then some Palace stuff.
the superwolf album and the one with tortoise... they're aces.
