Stone Temple Pilots
...but I agree. They're certainly the band aainst which more people are prejudiced than any other. Not saying they're a great band but definitely a good one.
The Divine Comedy
It's Mission of burma
Well, by Decca anyway.
I know they're popular-ish, but listening to them recently I realise how super fucking good they are! Mark Everett is a hugely, vastly brilliantly talented songwriter. Hence, under-rated.
Good call on Divine Comedy too.
No one ever raves about the eels but they're incredible.
I love them. Thankfully, a fair few other people do, just not anywhere near enough.
Fog are massively underrated, though - they may not be as good as Eels (perhaps), but they're completely ignored, so I'd say they were the more underrated.
I do love Fog. I might have mentioned that in every bloody thread like this. Yet still no-one learns.
where's their second album? I'm salivating just thinking about that Dominic Masters.
Sorry, did i say salivating? I meant 'having a panic attack'.
it had a picture of a lung or something on the front.
It's the stuff of nightmares.
Was the title.....and yeah, it had a heart on the cover. It was pretty dire, no stand alone tracks like 'William' off the 1st album, and Im sure Masters' voice got more grating on the 2nd album too
Actually an amazing song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydCdqcBafNk
or maybe i'm under-rating them. i get it now. is this what alcoholics call 'a moment of clarity?'
and a good mini album.
i'd say 100 Broken Windows and The Remote Part are good. and bits of Hope Is Important maybe. hmm.
Gaye Bykers on Acid
A trillion more...
Pusherman god I loved Pusherman.. Floored
So Long Low
I am going home to find that CD..
all we have is the ep and the melvins cover they did. Fucking tragic.
Circle Takes The Square. hm.
I don't thnik they get half the props they deserve for me they one of the most genuinely exciting rock bands around.
But then Tiger Bear Wolf >>>>>>>>>>>> most bands.
I find Cinemechanica more interesting, dynamic and experimental. Espescially from a vocal perspective, don't get me wrong though Tiger Bear Wolf are plenty good.
and also probably why I prefer TBW - they have no intention of doing anything particularly interesting, just on being very loud and very good. It's refreshing.
Or another one?
he's got a point man. how many people own a suicide record?
with nothing to do.
The professor taking my module once tried to convince us that Hole were the best band ever. I was having none of it.
Better than anything Nirvana ever did. In my books one of the greatest bands ever. So there.
or I Am Kloot.
and thinking 'these guys are so underrated'. i have yet to buy a record by them though.
I can't believe no1 has mentioned them yet. always vastly under-rated, although finally getting some recognition nowadays. asleep in the back is one of the finest debut albums like, ever.
...and now Future of the Left- but commercial success would kill the fire within Falco- so lets keep it that way!
HEAR ME OUT GOOD PEOPLE.
If we're going to approach this scientifically (I know we're not actually approaching this scientificially, but whatever), then there are three possible answers to this
1. Someone like Suicide, who basically inspired hatred in more or less everyone who heard them when they first emerged. Critical opinion and history have proven said extreme hatred very wrong - hence arguably the most underated band of all time, though not of right now
2. Hatred of Bono and of what U2 represent often causes an extreme dislike of the band and an inabiklity to accept they've ever done anything of any merit, whereas an objective perspective would probably see you like a couple of things. So in terms of the most number of people liking a band who have from time to time been at least okay, I would say it's them
3. Or finally, surely it would be a band nobody remembers who have somehow conspired to anonymously shape the very face of music AS WE KNOW IT
Failing all that, I'm going for Matson Jones
Six by Seven.
Those first three albums are solid as a rock, and yet they're still playing (and selling out?) little venues. Pound for pound, the most inventive, musical 'straight ahead' indie band of their day, and they still absolutely kill live.
HAs to be
Trouble was they only had one great songwriter while the Beatles had two. Plus Ray Davies can be a difficult bugger. His two recent solo albums (Other People's Lives and Working Man's Cafe) were criminally overlooked.
Hardly did a duff album
maybe they get enough praise though
I had no idea anyone else on here listened to Bongwater.
definitely not Stone Temple Toilets. They are massively overrated.
Once I was an embryo, till I got that old heave, hooooooooo!
according to Amrep guy on the messageboard. Cos they are 'the most underrated band of all time'!
any chance to plug em...
90's: Disco Inferno
80's: Pere Ubu
60's: Paul Clayton
These are the ones that most spring to mind.
THE GERALDINE FIBBERS
Get over the nasality and they rock!
