TODAY at Scala - whooop!
was gonna buy a ticket until dan deacon had to cancel, which was the gig's biggest pull for me as i've seen the other two a couple of times this year already.
and it's at the scala. bleugh.
I was torn between Smoke Fairies and this, but Dan Deacon was the reason for the tearing. So now I'm untorn. Stitched. Mended. Smoke Fairies it is. Free as well.
Gorgeous live. In several senses.
silly me, i read about them in time out. not bad.
But then doesn't everything.
These girls can conjure atmosphere spookily quickly. They make the hairs on the back of my neck do stuff.
going back to leeds early though, a shame

Cafe Oto - Mary Hampton Release Launch w/ Mary and Leafcutter John LONDON, London and South East
I'm going to the pub tonight, still not been to Oto :(
Cafe Oto the other day and had a Fruli. But the free jazz improv band cancelled so we just sat around and listened to Balkan folk songs on the decks.
Nice place though.
what time dtb is on stage tonight?
I thought about mentioning that I work on them, but there's not much point, I'm going because I like them foremost :)
now that dan deacon has dropped out, i'm glad i chose amt...
but i'm skint - can only afford one...
im not feeling that great either. gives me an excuse not to spend 20 quid to get to london, admitedly to see probably my favourite band.
Anyone know if ther'll be tickets on the door?
£10 is pretty good value for these 3 right?
Field Day but can't wait to see HEALTH again and I finally get to see Lovvers so quite pleased about that. May leave before No Age, depends if they manage to impress me or not.
but do you think Rough Trade tomorrow will be busy when we have to get wristbands?
I'm going to give the album a listen on my lunch. I still don't really 'get' it despite giving it quite a few chances. I'll stay for a couple of songs and see what I think.
they're really not that great.
they get alot of love on here and a few of my friends are really into them but I can't really see/hear it.
Lovvers are balls. Was really looking forward to seeing Dan Deacon again!
new tune says otherwise cocker
Going to Notts instead now after Dan Deacon pulled out.
Definitely. I was very, very much looking forward to Dan Deacon though...Shames
anyone got them for tonight?
that is a prime example of adding insult to injury.
Still, HEALTH will show everyone what a great band sound like.
i had no idea Lovvers were playing too! Can't wait
hoping to make it but am pushing it for time
between 9 and 9.30
are fucking shit, as are Lovvers.
HEALTH were utterly amazing as ever.
I left early because I was astonished at how bad No Age were, seriously worst band I've seen in a long time.
no age are awful. what was the crowd like for HEALTH?
is one of the best i've ever seen. he's a beast.
there were two utter cunts who talked througth the entire first half of their set.
im not some guestlist twat. i normally insist on paying but right now i have no £
and don't get me wrong, fair enough if you can get in on a guestlist too! i'd like some of that shit.
I want them, ALL OF THEM.. SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO FUCKING GOOD! Honestly it was fucking joyful... I bought a tshirt and EVERYTHING *looks pleased with herself* Pics to come!
I love Lovvers, I'm sorry I know some people don't (I told you Andy/Locusts they were marmitey) but I think they're brilliant and they make me happy. Although I see Shaun's had a haircut - first Calum now Shaun (totally unrelated but whilst talking bollocks why not embellish)
Anyhoo I enjoyed muchly - sound with No Age was f**king goadawful though. And i was on stage at some point so you'd think it would have sounded good there at least...
I'll end now bye.
i'm not understanding all the streams of hate in this thread.
far more exciting than No Age, that's for sure.
at times. Got better as it went on, but the children on the stage didn't really help. But hey.
But what is it with Health? I keep thinking I should like them more, but watching them again, apart from a couple of songs which were great, the best I can say is s'alright. Drummer is ace though.
but they were fun i guess. Not really my thing but enjoyable.
HEALTH were brilliant as ever. The sound at the Scala was really quite good from where i was standing. As well as the two new songs they've been playing at gigs recently they played another towards the end. It was beautiful. I really cannot wait for the new album if these new songs are anything to go by.
I don't quite get No Age, and after tonight i still don't. But those stage invasions were funny.
recall seeing any children on stage but hey!
Lovvers and Health were what it was all about for me tonight! Lovvers + Live = FUCKING AWESOMES!
I don't quite get the hate but I know I love it so whatevers. Love for Lovvers is what its all about.
they were really boring and they didn't look like they were having any fun. I think I might like them better somewhere like The Macbeth or OBL which are smaller.
crowd were mental for No Age, i just wish they could have been half as good for HEALTH as they were amazing.
if you need to see (DiS review up soon)... short at the back long up front. Its nae bad.
meant to say: k, i look forward to the pictures
SHAWN, except the front!
it's probably because he had a wedding to go to.
I want to be their drummer so, so much. But then they'd be shit. Whatever, they were incredible.
Lovvers were awful. Nothing to set them apart from the hordes of bands doing exactly the same thing.
And No Age were, um, a little disappointing actually. It wasn't just the sound (which was bad at ATP too), but I thought that they were a little flat. The crowd livened things up a lot - and it was quite funny seeing 15 year-old public schoolboys creating 'chaos'.
That makes it sound like I didn't enjoy it, but I did. It's all about HEALTH really for me.
Me and my mate. I'm glad you found it :)
lovvers werent anything special but i havent really given them a chance yet.
HEALTH were absolutely incredible.
as were No Age. the stage invasions were great haha. it was nice to see people enjoying themselves for once, instead of standing around moaning.
how come people on here always mentions something about bad sound for ANY gig? there cant always be shit sound. is everyone a sound engineer or something? sounded great to me anyway
too much absinthe with no age nd health but both band say THANK YOU! love
ps. The sound was great!
Health were camper than I expected.
as i said to a mate, it was nice again to be in an old skl environment of sweaty teenagers - but this time with better music.
Health and No Age immensly. Health are obviously more interesting musically, and their drummer is just incredible, but No Age are just so much fun live, and they clearly were having a really good time themselves. The crowd getting into it helped a lot as well, whereas during Health the atmosphere in the venue was a bit flat.
I was early enough to see the full Lovvers set.
Lovvers - i missed, thankfully.
HEALTH - were incredible last night, I've seen them better (They were mind blowing when they played the Joiners), but enjoyed thoroughly. The new songs sounded promising too.
No Age - were much better than at ATP. Will have to check out the record.
they need a decent drummer to pull of their sound and they just don't have that, their bassist is pretty poor as well. Health were excellent, they really showed up No Age.
i prefer them on record which is wierd.
HEALTH - truley amazing. Such a louder, more intense version than on record and the sound was excellent from them. Just wish the corwd got into them more.
No Age - Excellent. loads of energy and the crowd really got into them which was quite unique at an indie gig in London
