Peanut Butter & Bananas

oceanRain [Edit] [Delete] 2 replies 08:31, 8 August '05
I try 'n watch videos once in a while, not often. MTV's Subterraneans might take its name from the Bowie song and might use the intro to Clinic's Second Line, but it's really just a watered-down 120 Minutes for the emo generation and so I start channel surfing or in this case, go upstairs to listen to (what else?) Internal Wrangler. And now that I'm listening to it, I could be totally wrong about the Subterraneans connection. And the Bowie song could just be a coincidence, too. Since you guys probably don't have this MTV2 show, I may never have the confirmation I so desperately crave.

Fortunately(!), Internal Wrangler sparked its own thread idea. The record is full of pop sensibilities, yet what stands out is a very weird amalgamation of surf and Krautrock. Elvis's favorite food was apparently a peanut butter and banana sandwich, and for some strange reason I wouldn't mind trying one.

Weird Cross-Genre Pollinations! (Yeah, whatever that means.)

PS I thought Songs From Outer Space was pretty good and surprised it died a quick death. This one's gona be on page 3 before I wake up. :-)

my first thought after reading that was
    punk + disco = Blondie,
but thinking about it they rarely did it at the same time, did they...

My favourite cross-genre stuff has to be Ennio Morricone's spaghetti Western scores. Surf guitar + military trumpet + country harmonica + whistling + swooping strings + operatic vocals + at one point in "For a few dollars more", a bloody church organ...
