From London? Dunno. From lovely Birmingham; Broadcast.

doesn't have a music scene.
largely because people try and put on gigs for the naysayers and no fucker turns up.
Takes two to tango etc.
You might want to look in the direction of people like Half a Pigeon, Rapture Parties, Expanding Sea and Monkey Suit who put on shows in Reading or slightly further afield (but at the same time easy to get to places) like Guildford, Aldershot, Fleet etc. Then you'll realise there is some semblance of a "music scene" worth immersing yourself in.
but it's still nothig compared to other towns our size. we don't have any decent sized venues for bands bigger than local ones (apart from the hexagon perhaps), and most local bands just head to london or oxford for gigs as soon as they get some fans.
i like your band :)
Unfortunately it is true what you say about a lack of decent sized venues, even when The Fez was still open there were a lack of promoters with the chops to put on a variety of bigger bands.
I think one reason local bands go to Oxford or London is because there are those venues which we lack (although Pete & The Pirates have been kind enough to treat us with a couple of secret/intimate shows when they can).
The thing is the council are sitting on some good venues (South Street/Concert Hall/even the Hexagon like you say) but their "commitment to the arts" is severely lacking when it comes to live music and the costs to use them are bordering on extortion. But this is perhaps the wrong forum to be rambling about this.
Still, I hope you check out some of the promoters above and see you at one of their shows.
apologising for the singer of the fratellis and the dykeenies.. oh and one of travis ... for that we are truly sorry
however my local area ie cumbernauld & kilsyth has given birth to we are the physics and the fuckin brilliant twilight sad

Prefab Sprout. Haven't actually heard anything by them so I don't know if they are any good but as they are the only band from here (other than my own of course) I'd have to say they are probably my favourite.
i get phat beats from Gossamer.
