You may know russell lissack as the bloc party guitarist, but did you know he can stand picking his nose just as well?
pity they can't afford live trombonists.
They're doing absolutly bugger all :(
That Russel's a bloody good guitarist. He must be thinking 'How did it turn into this??'......
I really liked the 1st album. This is, quite frankly, a load of old toss.
I can follow the logic i.e. 'cos he's the guitarist he must always want to play guitar but it might not be true - it could just as easily be his decision that guitar isn't needed on the song.
Russell plays guitar in this video! Some fucking good guitar lines including a solo!
i really do hope they produce something better than this
Jesus that's awful.
empty and hollow, when they're doing it on a larger scale i hope to god they get some actual brass in 'cos those keyboard tones sound tacky and cheap
is actually my favourite thing they've done since that original recording of 'she's hearing voices' - i honestly thought i was never going to like anything they did again. also: am a fan of casio brass, always.
makes me nostalgic for the silent alarm days
"Right guys, this albums' gonna be considered our Kid A. I'm thinking my voice looped a lot and sampled brass sections. That means no bass or guitar for this album i'm afraid. Can I convince you to play the theremin?"
are the worst part for me. Kele is desperate to be thought of as literate and intelligent and it results in him churning out stuff like "my mercury's in retrograde" which really sets my teeth on edge.
say what you will about Noel Gallagher's lyrics, at least the guy was under no illusions. Far better to have that than the stuff Bloc Party and Maximo Park come out with ("5 x 5 is 25" anyone?)
to use noel gallagher as an example of a better lyricist is like using june sarpong as an example of a better cleaning detergent. it make no sense.
but just because there's no guitar in the recorded version doesn't mean you can't adapt. Play "a chord" or break out some congas, don't just stand there like a fucking lemon
but did you know that i know that you know that i know? If you actually knew what i know you knew in the first place, that is
p.s. isn't it something to do with "bad times coming"? It definitely means something that could easily be translated to Kele's colouring book political vision. So nawww
but, yes, it's a metaphor, i guess:
"What is Mercury Retrograde?:
This happens three to four times per year, when the planet Mercury slows down, and appears to stop (station) and move backward (retrograde). It's an optical illusion, since there is forward movement, like speeding by a slow-moving train -- as it recedes, it appears to go backward.
Since Mercury rules communication, it's said that everything goes haywire in that area -- emails get deleted or bounced back, mail is returned, calls go out into the ethers, etc. Some people find that their computers go on the fritz or phone lines go down." (from about.com)
You could also say "Pluto is declassified" etc.
in addition to what I've said below.
I personally take the view that lyrics are effectively a mode of communication and any communication where the average reader needs to do further reading in order to actually understand what it is your trying to communicate isn't a particularly successful attempt at communication.
You sort of feel he's trying harder to sound clever and deep than he is to actually say whatever he's trying to say - it's completely over-laboured and very sixth form.
To be honest I don't think he's that bad a lyricist but he does seem to harpoon himself with the odd howler, as he does with this line.
I like that lyric!
i didnt think it could get worse... Its an OK song but this just sucks! The synth sounds like the distorted accordion sound my old joke band used
its just an indie pop indie disco tune for NME kids its nowt to get worked up about.
I have nicely ignored it since the first hearin so it didnt annoy me heheh
they'll never make anything like Luno ever again :( :( :(
of this and it sounds as though Ronson's got his grubby hands on some lame 6th form poet and his home studio. And to think i LOVE this band.
at least it's harder to hear the actual song on this recording.
did Bloc Party sound like Editors?
if Bloc Party sound like Editors, and The National are an American Editors, where does that leave Foals?!
Antidotes is better than Silent Alarm.
I thought it was a total waste of Russell's talents as a guitarist. It's a shame to see that confirmed :(
that was awful *cringe*
Kele is good looking, famous, talented and successful and you're all just a bunch of internet fucking losers.
so we can see the error of our ways.
SHUT DOWN DROWNED IN SOUND!
