The first Pentangle album
i like the most. This its just self titled, had a silouette of the band on the cover.
If you like them and Fairport then also check out a band called Trees.
And some Irish folk then Planxty are absolutely amazing.
Trees
i like the sound of them
:O
this is amazing! thanks!
Basket of Light (1969)
Don't know if it's the best Pentangle album, but it's bloody good.
ah yes
Maconie was playing that on the Freak Zone last week and it was great, i think i will invest in that.
espers
try the imaginatively titled espers and, er, espers II. great cover of the blue oyster cult's flaming telepaths.
^ that too ^
both excellent.
Farewell Sorrow by Alasdair Roberts
modern classic
shirley and dolly
no words but
Message to Bears
yeah, go on, I'd be interested to read it
I have the American Folk Anthology, but its so huge I havent really got my head round it yet.
Roy Harper sounds interesting, what's he like? Haven't got Fotheringay.
Wow, thats a lot of information.
Roy harper sounds really interesting. I will have to check him out. I don't know a lot about folk so this is all pretty new to me. Thanks for your tips

Jansch's version of Blues Run The Game
Is incredible. It's pretty much a staple of his solo set these days.
'Live At The 12 Bar' apparently
Although I have it on a best-of CD. He's played it both times I've seen him live though.
The 4CD box set
Time has come is all the Pentangle you need a disc each of pre and post 1970 stuff, the live album from Sweet Child slightly reordered and a disc of rarities. Very little repeating of songs across the discs, which is sometimes the problem with box sets and a comprehensive biog of the band. Then get some of Jansch's solo stuff, I find Renbourn a bit 'hey nonny nonny' on his own.
Another vote for Davy Graham too, he was pretty much THE inspiration for Bert Jansch. I'm really enjoying Sandy Denny's North Star Grassman and the Ravens at the moment and Cath and Phil Tyler's Dumb Supper. Roll on Green Man!
it's a good box set indeed !
And for folk, you obviously need to listen to Judee Sill and Vashti Bunyan.
Definitely
Am I on my own in liking Lookaftering more than Diamond Day?
hats off to roy harper
stormcock is a fucking gem
Oh and most solo stuff by Sandy Denny
amazingly beautful voice and put so much into it. In my opinon the benchmark for female folk singers.
So, this Davy Graham chap ....
emusic has these albums, which should i start with?
Broken Biscuits
Godington Boundry
Hat
Large As Life And Twice As Natural
Midnight Man
Folk, Blues And Beyond.
