He is a dick, though. True dat.
What a fucking hypocrite. I can't stand that obnoxious cunt (as much as I like PiL).
he's increasingly becoming a total and utter embarrassment of a human being.
nor have I ever liked anything he's done.
I also love jazz and think Amy Winehouse is pretty good.
While I disagree with him, I still think its good to have musicians with opinions in the public eye.
Its refreshing. So he slags gays off a bit. Who gives a shit?
What makes me dig his controversial opinions more than the 'rock against the right-wing' stuff we usually get from these people is the thought of the DiS/Pitchfork/Guardian types' over-the-top reactions to them. All this "his words make me feel ill" shit. Its pathetic. His disregard for your sorts is what turns me on.
lets be prejudiced against homosexuals and blacks. As long as it pisses off a certain generalised section of society, that's all that matters. Seriously my friend, you are a dick. The world does not exist on a computer screen. Pull your head out of your own arse for 5 minutes.
His music is also moronic.
Still, his idiocy is entertaining. I don't agree with him or anything he has ever stood for, and his thing about being opposed to whites doing black music is fucking propesterous.
But while everyone's being genuinely hurt and upset by his off-hand moronic shit, allow me to laugh at the situation.
Musicians with views that don't rub well with liberals tend to keep their mouths shut. Good on him for not giving a shit what the mass music press thinks.
having opinions. But surely if you state your opinion you have to acknowledge that people will disagree.
In this case I'm not hugely worked up because i doubt he's even being sincere but just slagging people off to get some headlines and all he's doing is making himself look like a sad old dick.
I'm not saying you shouldn't expect disagreement; more you should laugh at those who vehemently oppose and are consitently upset by him.
But he's Such a cock. He's not upsetting and I don't oppose his views, I just think he himself is such a pointless little knobjockey.
Is that so risible? To think someone's twattering old grandad is a no-mark bellend that should be taken off life support? Is that so wrong?
What part of being in love with your own voice is refreshing? I don't think he actually has an opinion, just a broken record of shit lodged in his neck.
"Its refreshing. So he slags gays off a bit. Who gives a shit?"
Wow. You're an idiot.
I'm the idiot for not bothering what some talentless loudmouth cockney has to say about homosexuals, and you're the considerate genius for sobbing your heart out over it.
i'm just saying he's a twat who says moronic bullshit to get a rise out of people, which is pretty pathetic if you need attention that badly.
You're more foolish for reacting to him.
Its like chris-is-cool and his silly opinions about gunning arabs down.
He's doing a great job of making a tit out of himself on his own. It takes another tit to point it out and get angry about it.
You're a moron.
But please by all means, carry on disagreeing so vocally with someone its far-too-easy to disagree with if it makes you feel better about yourself.
I'm off to protest against burglary. See you there.
any jazz in amy winehouse's stuff.... i hear poppy motown funk. the odd chord extension doesn't really make it jazz, does it?
i suppose it does if you're a know-nowt gobshite like john lydon, who let's remember, hasn't made a good record in at least 20 years.
'jazz is the biggest cover up for a lack of talent the world has ever known.' incorrect, ill informed, pathetic and just plain non-sensical shit from someone who wouldn't know how to play the fucking triangle even if it came with an instruction manual.
oh and, this shit about lydon being entertaining: is your life so boring that it takes a senile old wank spouting cod-philosophy to raise a smile?
maybe if you're 16....
Jelly Roll Morton, the 'inventor of jazz' pretty much uses the terms jazz and blues interchangeably. I'm listerning to his complete Alan Lomax interview and song recordings right now. Hence the interjection.
Love the pistols, love a lot of PIL. I just wish he would disappear and stop sullying his past. The more he opens his gob the harder it is to like him. It's a shame 'cos I'm sure he never used to be this bad when I think of 'The Filth and the Fury' or his autobiography.
someone writes a message or two about disagreeing nwith Lydon, doesn't mean that they're crying over it or obssessed with what he said. It takes, what, 20-30 secs to write a message. I can write lots of messages on this forum everyday about many different (albeit musical) subjects....as do you yourself wrightylew. We're hardly marching the streets with banners against Lydon.
I would say that three chord punk ala sex pistols is the best musical genre for covering up lack of talent.
I woul also suggest that Pil borrowed from Jazz and other 'black' music.
I agree what what he says about winehouse, she is a bit substanceless, but he could have chosen his words better.
"I would say that three chord punk ala sex pistols is the best musical genre for covering up lack of talent."
If you removed the entirely unecessary homophobia, and the race nonsense, he is largely correct.
I've not been to the Isle of Wight (Festival, I've been to the place at least once), but I know enough people who have been, and have seen enough of it on TV (let alone looking at the various line-ups) to be extremely suspicious that it is about sitting down and waving flags and more relaxed and an "older" (read well behaved) crowd and ABSURD.
Winehouse does make super bland jazz and would have gone the way of Jamie Cullen (who I assume is working on a cruise ship or something) long ago if she hadn't done loads of drugs, done her hair a bit different and been in the London lite all the time.
Of course I'd argue that Lydon used the same trick with reggae rather than jazz in PiL to a degree, but he didn't make it bland did he?
burning everyone that comes into contact. Where will he strike next?.....
Nothing new really. When he is playing the Johnny Rotten character this is what he does.
In the late 70s his targets were TV hosts, authority figures and his bandmates.
It's the same shit but slung at a different audience. He's only saying it to get a reaction.
Tedious old cunt.
