Who's next, The Who Sell Out, Tommy, Quadrophenia, My Generation, something else...??
of all the big legendary/classic rock bands from that period I find that it's The Who whose material is weakest in retrospect.
I don't like The Who. I feel like people are about to spit at me whenever I say that.
I would stroke your hair and offer you a Tunnock's Caramel.
Especially the first side - the drums and bass are magnificent. "Who's Next" is great too.
and FUCK OFF you h8ters above, so so wrong.
totally banging and very very loose and raw. In a way The Who were miles ahead of the other bands around. I mean playing woodstock and giving the hippies 20 mins of pure feedback and smashing shit up! Amazing. Didint know what hit em. Douchbags.
But yeah get into the early stuff and take if from there. Fuck the haters thats all thats on here!! Er...ooops.x
Crap live nowadays too.
The Who Sell Out or Tommy or Live at Leeds. Or the singles comp Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy is tremendous. with who's next and quadrophenia they started getting a bit too pompous but there's still ace stuff on both albums.
the Ultimate Collection 3 CD set and then whatever you like most off of that, delve into those albums. It's a great set of all the classics songs and some of the older b-sides etc.
The Who are quality!
Overrated, overrated, overrated.
Never understood the kudus they got as being a major British band.
Probably due to the ridiculous affair that was Tommy, too much love from the USA and their Spinal Tapesque drummer.
Keith Moon once tried to land a helicopter on Oliver Reed's house, Reed tried to shoot him down with a shotgun, they became mates after this, obviously.
THIS is why the Who were good.
Nothing to do with their half-arsed patchy albums.
Go and buy a biog of them or (even better) Moon instead.
as a start. It's cheating a bit to suggest a compilation, I know. But it is a good starting point.
Album wise, go for Tommy or Who's Next.
2 disc and 'the who sell out' are CLASSICS!!!
i'm with these lads.
