probably makes my response a little too biased.
MBV played it and who do you reckon is shifting more albums?
much of a comparison ;)
they've previously headlined shepherd's bush.
they can probably just about do it with all the good press they've had recently
the new one. is this bad?
It is though :)
the new one is ace
but then I just thought 'as long as i'm there, what else matters?'
This gig will sell out
show is compartively small. Not even at the acdemy, but at the Uni. Nice (but cant go - cheers life)
I might be wrong, but if they can play the Roundhouse, a top 20 charting band can.
... but you'd have to adapt it. Maybe use a few existing artists with a grudge against the new breed as the Gladiators? I'd love to see Johnny Rotten in spandex.
And thats enough in London as millions of people will come out who think they ought to be there then talk all the way through about futons and mortgages. Good old London gigs.
I really liked the album and looked out for The Hold Steady to play their first UK date. I ended up missing it at Hoxton Bar & Grill because I was a bit tired that evening and figured they made music that'd never be popular in the UK so would be able to catch them at a similar sized venue sometime soon enough.
How wrong I was.
one of my friends had a ticket to see them at the borderline and skipped it for similar reasons.
YOU'RE ALL FOOLS!
how good would it be to see the Hold Steady at the Borderline? quite good.
and by october they might well easily be big enough.
album is improving for me on repeated listens.
and they are great live so...
from emusic the other day 'cos I was so fed up of hearing how good this band were.
Turns out they're a boring bar band with clever lyrics. Who'd of thought?
... but there is truth in the "bar band" jibes. Guess it ultimately comes down to whether you like Bruce Springsteen and the Kings Of Leon.
I mean in England its pub-rock and thats shite, boring, uninterested, I'd rather be in the pub crap, but I don't think you could describe the HS as such?
This maybe a whole new thread.
I can see why people like them, it's just there's so much hype about them and so many people on here seem to love them that I expected something more.
It's the kind of music I expect older muso types to like (bearing in mind I'm 35).
as in, a band who clearly enjoy what they're doing and relate to the audience. Different to a "pub band" which brings to mind arrogant muso types playing too loud.
in the loosed term.
