Has anyone got any of his albums?
but 'wow' is spot on. Amazing guitarist as well.
i have all of them. i think 'o true believers' is quite a good place to start, but to be honest you can't really go wrong. it's quite nice to start at the beginning (celeste/sunshrine) and listen to his technique and songwriting progress.
the brethren of the free spirit LP he did with josef van wissem is great too. it's a bit more repetetive and slightly less melodic than his solo stuff, but once it gets into your head it's hard to get it out!
I've got Cloud of Unknowing and Litany of Echoes. They're both excellent. Highly recommended.
Has more piano on it? Would that be the best place to start?
What i have heard is incredible, the music is in itself so simple, but I think the phrasing and the melodies are just perfect.
but I never seen much love for him on here. Cloud Of Unknowing and the album before that (name temporarily escapes me) are more guitar based, new one does indeed have more piano. But pretty much everything he releases is worth your time; the melodies are so subtle and his playing is fucking sublime, it's like a continual stream of notes. I read a review which suggested he was closer to being a dream pop artist than anything, which I can certainly understand.
Have only heard clips of the new one mind you but his 12-string playing is so amazing that a more piano-based record isn't the best place to start.
Normally post-Fahey stuff can be happily listened to in the background but this is literally 'drop what you are doing' music. I would love to see him live. Such an amazing talent, and British too.
If you sign up to eMusic you get 50 free downloads which is more than enough to pick up his entire discography, including one exclusive album, White Goddess (not his best but still darn good).
it's all a bit too 'nice' for me to really get into his stuff - gimme jack rose or matt baldwin or richard bishop or any of those guys first.
