I like Ten better. Am I too conventional/boring? I don't care. Which do you rate best?
but only for the cover art
That album totally soundtracked 1991 for me! Vs never really grabbed me.
with songs like 'Daughter' and 'Elderly Lady Behind a Counter in a Small town' then Vs could also be my fave.
I have a soft spot for Riot Act though.
although Yield is up there for me.
I'm going to say Ten.
I DO have Vs. I'd entirely forgotten about that. Excellent, this ties in nicely with my current early 90s US rock obsession.
I bet Bamos and Colonol_k both say Vs. They have NO taste! :)
all amazing. If I was going to be a mass selling stadium rock band, I'd definitely be Pearl Jam.
or mix the two..
Would be better
You don't like Bloc Party. You're letting us down.
I think we should kick him out of the gang! :)
on 22 Radford Street though, let's get the money from that and see how we go.
stick The Meadowlands on and get the sambuccas in!
I could understand if he didn't like the 2nd album, but seriously, the first album, I mean, even a noisy bastard like me loves it.
Bamos, you're fired.
You LOVE Sub Pop.
I really like it now! Obviously EATT is better.
It never got the time to grow on me.
I've always thought that Ten really goes off the boil after Oceans, whereas Vs. is far more consistent in my view(and it also has Dissident and Rearviewmirror on it, which might be my top two PJ songs).
Rear view mirror is pretty special!!
It's one of my favourites!
But Vs. also has WMA on it.
Rearviewmirror is class. Ten is great, but i think Vs just edges it for me. Honourable mention to No Code to though
and its on Vs. Also 'animal' and 'go' make for a pretty hot opening one two combo.
live on 2 legs
i dont think i ever gave that much of a chance. nothingman, corduroy anbd better man were all recorded better on live on 2 legs for me,. the studio values are pretty weak on this one
It's so dark.
Always been my favourite PJ album, Ten took some beating though.
Vs for me. Pearl Jam are my favourite band and I dont really listen to Ten much. Might as well do my full list:
I mostly listen to the live shows though.
except, Id move Binaural up a couple of places...I found Riot Act quite boring..
i do listen to the live bootlegs more than I do PJ's albums though.
I gotta go with Vs.
Similarly to what theskysawfulblue said, Ten loses its way in the second half whereas Vs is a complete record. The opening five from Go, Animal, Daughter, Glorified G and Dissident are sublime and Blood contains one of Eddie Vedder's finest vocal displays - the moment that his voiie sounds like its being shredded with a razor before returning to a smooth tone is pure brilliance.
Having said that reckon Black is my all-time fave of theirs.
The version on Live At Benaroya Hall - the bit where the crowd sings and Eddie comes back in - shivers down my spine every single fucking time.
my favourite album, ever. 'Vs' is great too, although I never liked it as much at the time. My order of preference is as follows:
has the hits but it also has big bon jovi production so Vs. it is
that i had their stickman logo tattooed on my arm :-) Had the chance to see them live in Hartford a couple of weeks ago, and they were incredible.
Ten and Vs are pretty close, but i'd probably give the edge to Vs, because of it's *slightly* less overblown production. For me, it goes like this:
pearl jam tattoo? awesome!
saw them do both nights at madison square garden, they were phenomenal. was great hearing w.m.a live
Unless their next album goes by the title "We're Nazis Really!", I will never, ever regret this....
who really likes Riot Act?
It's near the bottom of my list, but i still like it.
my initial reaction was: "since when did Mission of Burma release an album called Ten?"
There is nothing wrong with Soundgarden, either.
ever wrote 'Academy Fight Song', so I still win.
I prefer Revolver or Photograph to AFS though. And Trem 2 is amazing. If they play London next year, you're coming to stay, yes?
And yeah. Yeah I reckon I could definitely fit that in.
is a great album. havent listened to it in ages.
Vs. every time!
The real question ultimatum is Badmotorfinger vs Superunknown - which one would you save from a fire if you could only take one and knew it was the last copy of both in the world?
Badmotorfinger is really good, but Superunknown is fucking brilliant! :)
You've just reminded me that I need to buy Superunknown again as it was lost ages ago!! I shall do this at lunch!!
Fucking class A album fo'sure!!!
It's a fiver in FOPP, if indeed there's a FOPP near you.
Everytime. Its a beast of a record and I always thought Soundgarden sounded better at full-pelt.
Just listening to it in the car for the first time in years, god it's good!
Although, Jesus Christ Pose!
i got really confused when people started mentioning all these other albums...
understand the lack of love for Binaural. I think its one of their best. But yeah, I think Id go for Vs over Ten. Ten does go off the boil a bit (as somebody above noted)
Ten has Bon Joci production
since the remixed version of Ten came out earlier this year. It really is a massive improvement.
but it's squeaker..Just a more complete, ambitious and fulfilling record, that hasn't aged. (unfortunately Ten has a bit)
In order of preference and there aren't many who can compete with their first five albums:
No Code (a truly great record
Riot Act / Pearl Jam / Backspacer
PS. Anyone else stay up to listen to them play live on radio 1 back in the day? it was the atlanta gig that ended up on the live set thing. brillo pads
but I grudginly say 'ten'
who frikkin' cares? It's Pearl Jam! ALL their records suck!
Phil lemonbrick had one opportunity to redeem himself: he could have made the title deliberately ambiguous with Ten Vs. Nocode or something.
It now sounds like over earnest, bloated and full off 6th form poetry. Therefore, Vs. is better.
they're not on my ipod so i've clearly not listened to them in the last three years. should i be doing so?
C'mon folks, where's the love? I have that one on massive gatefold vinyl (nice) and it's the only PJ record I still listen to with any sort of frequency.
