is fucking appalling.
they'll give 5* to any old shit. The Feeling for example.
but recently has been awful, this months issue especially
its been really rubbish of late.
Every now and again it has the odd good bit. And its probibly a little better than some of the sunday suplement stuff.... maybe... just.
PRIMAL SCREAM *****
yes it is shit. They do give really mundane stuff 5 stars.
they have that they have discovered things that NOONE else has noticed or heard.
Really annoys me.
today is a waste of space.
I was going to disagree with the thread and say "Well, for a mainstream music magazine it usually has a couple of interesting things in", and then I started to read this article.
Jesus wept. It's truly one of the worst things I've ever read.
it fucking blows doesn't it?
It's like a feature that a 14-year-old work experience boy would come up with.
but today is awful.
and what did they reccomend for Les Dennis? 'Why not swap UB40 for Vampire Weekend?'
You have to bear in mind it is more aimed at the mainstream than Dis or even NME.
They placed Come On Feel The Illinoise at number 3 in their 2005 end of year list, which was a minor miracle since nobody m
mainstream had heard of him then. They were also first on the block with the Hot Puppies afaik. They lost it for me with that stupid article about math-pop or intelli-rock or whatever it was - apparently These New Puritans were going to be the band of the year this year. Hah !
They've got a modern artist to describe some albums that might have been made and then shelved if things had turned out differently - a Beatles reuniting, Queen and Bowie collaborating, the Million Dollar Quartet, some Damon Albarn thing under the name Jack (Anthony Reynolds not pictured)... Les Dennis is a Tom Waits fan. Why is that surprising? Why can't he be if he so wants?
I also don't get the ordering of the reviews after number ten, because it's not in mark or favourite order or anything like that.
but the reviews section is terrible.
Someone on here said that give good reviews to artists to maintain a working relationship with them-like being able to get interviews with big artists.
I think it's pretty awful- you'll see a genuinely great, great album get 5 stars alongside Girls Aloud and Magic Numbers.
Its always shit, yet when I buy the paper on Sunday I always think "Cool! Music Monthly!".
Weird. I obviously never learn.
im the same. have been for three years now or however long its been limping along
Ha. Excellent. Its not just me then.
infuriating its been of late. poxy 'world music'.
the other month was especially bad. but i share the same problem. i never set out to buy it, but it always ends up in my hands every month...
as it alerted me to Dengue Fever, who have their moments and various chinese bands.
Today's was pointless however, especially the "I went into a shop and bought a load of old crap" feature.
in I think it was totally wired "he was like the observer magazine, smug self satisfying".
but even that is poor; especially in comparison with the superlative coverage (especially football) that The Guardian provides.
They must just move a bunch of jokers in for the weekend, and then usher them out again on sunday.
