Is his new 'Los Angeles' any good?
Is it all instrumental, or do rappers contribute?
all instrumental, no rappers anyway, there are the odd bits of vocal contributions but they are pretty instrumental in nature.
One of my fav albums of recent times.
recommend it then it's bound to be good, I will purchase this from my local record store at the weekend :)
Haven't bought a Hip-Hop album in a while, I think the last one I bought was erm Ghostface Killah *thinks*
May buy the new Roots one aswell, do you know if its any good?
the review on here is wicked though makes me wana check it out.
and thanx :)
Harder, with more synths and politics than previous LPs. Some good guests spots too.
And yes, the Lotus album is very ace.
there are some mixes of his on there to if you want a taste of what hes about.
Saul Williams! That's a must have!
Think I may also buy this, is out yet? Actually don't think it's out yet, I love his version of bloody sunday.
but they took it down from that free download thing ages ago now.
download it on my mac for some reason, so never got around to listening to the album :/
he is also called FlyLo its a nick name
your blog is admirable.
I just enjoy writing and music lots hehe.
You will probibly enjoy SamIYam if you like FlyLo he is also from LA and making some mad instrumental hiphop and h has even worked with Flying Lotus under the name of FLYamSAM.
You've written about Air France's EP which is gorgeous! I love the reggae/dancehall tinges/samples on June Evenings! Good blog Jimi!
I went and checked it out after you mentioned it the other day. Its a wicked lil EP.
Los Angeles is really good, though I think I prefer the Reset EP, as I tend to lose focus with instrumental hip-hop full lengths. I also have a random remix he did of a Mia Doi Todd song he did a while back, which is really good.
Has anyone heard 1983? I should probably check it out...
he brought out isn't it?
but do not really get why its called hip hop - more in common with The Bug and Burial surely?
but its pretty routed in hphop with all the break beats and samples he has just kinda brought it into th ereal of more bass music like dubstep and electronica too. A true genre spanner.
I think I have a SamIYam remix of one of their tunes.
There's that belter of a remix by Kode9 of Dabyre's Air feat. MF DOOOOOOM
that sounds freakin sweeeeet
that he did at Sonar 2007? Pretty much brought the house down with it, and brought Dubstep to the masses. Probably the best dubstep mix I've heard to the day!
the Dabyre remix is on it!
I will have a search for it. Kode 9 is just awsome his label is amazing.
found the MF Doom Kode 9 track its fat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT0AGLAru5Y
beat ya to it by a minuite
the track list is a beast.
